It's interesting how well liked Carmichael is/was considering how much he would win and dominate and then you look at Villipoto and how a lot of people despise him. Personality goes a long ways...

Well, to be honest, when Ricky was "the guy", he was moderately respected but not super well liked by any stretch of the imagination. Yeah a lot of the general fans just latched on to the best guy and liked him (like RV), but Ricky made some key enemies on the track that translated to some massive distaste from the crowd. One key guy that Ricky put down on more than one occasion was one Travis Pastrana. As soon as the first run in with Travis in 02 occurred, Ricky was boo'd a lot after that. I remember Chad wasn't super well liked when he burst onto the scene but when he started outright beating Ricky in 03, people were pretty pumped. Then of course RC had the whole fuelgate debacle where he got points taken away and yadda yadda and when James first came up people were really excited for another possible "dethroning". But like RV, people were always looking for a way to pick apart Carmichael's short-comings. It's likely that you just see it more often now because of how many people voice their opinions on social media and forum boards.

I don't feel like I ever liked Ricky. I remember going from McGrath to Reed to Stewart. Though now both can go suck a wang and I'm cool with Carmichael, other than his announcing skills, always been a Bubba fan because he signed something of mine after a moto at LL (NAMEDROP). Times change people.
