Why do environmentalists give a damn about deserts? It's just sand and some shrubs. Don't they have anything better to do?

Here in Nz they decided to make a windfarm in the middle of no where. No one would hear it or see it. Yet a group of Enviro"mentalists" came along, trespassed on the property and had a huge cry.
