I just recently stumbled upon a bunch of the "top 10" rapper lists that came out right before 2020 and I feel like a lot of skill wasn't even mentioned and replaced with names I wouldn't consider top 50 skill wise or song quality. So I felt I would list my top 10 based purely on overall skill and quality of their tracks (Skill broken down to: Technical ability and variety in wordplay, variety of flows, lyrical content, and rhyme schemes). Note this is single artists, not groups and this is my opinion. Hate if you want but if you only know a few tracks here and there of these artist, don't talk to me. I'd love to hear some discussion.

I had about 30 names in mind I had to slot into the top 10 but so many are interchangeable that I went with the standouts, so there's 10 names I didn't even honorably mention that if you put them into your top 10 I would have no issues with.

He has bad tracks from the production side but even revival, a trash album no doubts, has beautifully crafted lyrics. Encore was the only album with garbage lyrics. He is my top pick for the same reason Tech N9ne made it out of the mentions and into the top 5, good sounding tracks for the most part with impeccable lyricism through the vast majority.

Have you forgot to take your pills? Every name here made their name and stamp on hip hop in the 80's, most of them pioneering the genre into a new area to encourage progression (away from the corny ass shit in the early 80's). Of course there were others, I know my history well but not all of the music catalogs, hence why slick rick never made my list because I just don't know enough from him as well as others.
