Re: Photography
Finally got some work online now, pretty stoked about it.
Hopefully they get used online or something, kinda strange to think that the whole world can see them now if I get lucky.

I really want to go get more pics like this tonight, but its drizzling and I don't want to be a mile from my house and have it start pouring

Hell yes! Thanks for the tips, Mikey. Appreciate it!Mikey wrote:I wasn't sure if I should hit submit on this one or not but I thought fuck it maybe some other Moto snappers might find this useful even though 317 didn't ask or may not care for feedback.
But yeah I think this image is quality, 317. And if you squint and put your hand over the grass, the image goes from good to exceptional. It also follows the #1 rule in Sport Photography which is shooting with a clean background.317 wrote:
I think you should try this shot again, purely to set yourself a new and higher standard of image to shoot towards which I think is important to grow as a photographer.
Same time of day with the same lighting, ideally the same rider too.
Just try these few things:
- Stand a few feet to the left looking a little more right so you don't have any of that ugly green.
- Crouch down just a touch more to add a little more depth to the image. Roughly, so that the foreground of dirt ends under the riders right foot or a third to half way up the front wheel. I think adding more depth will make this an even stronger composition.
- This is extremely nitpicky and I suppose subjective, but I would crop so that the bottom of the image to the tire is the same distance from the top of the image to the helmet - I can talk more why this is important but it might be too pedantic.
I know it wasn't asked for and i'm not sure how many people on here aspire to be pro snappers but I think some of what I've mentioned here is quite important to keep in mind next time you head to the track.

Just some of the best pictures of the 2018 Snocross season here in Canada, crazy to think that this was my 14th year racing... This one was special to me, from winning my first race in my first year in the Pro ranks (Pro-Lite class, which you could compare to AMA 250SX) to leading in a Pro race when I signed up in this class at the last race of the season to see where im at now (Pro Open class, which you could compare to AMA 450SX). Ended up 2nd in the Pro-Lite championship

Where do you guys buy your lenses from? I'm in the market for a Canon EF 70-200, but I'm wanting to get the best deal as I'm not a professional yet. I have a Rebel t5.
I'm mainly shooting baseball, dirt track, and some moto. If you guys think I'd be better off with a different lens, I'd love to know. My budget is flexible depending on the deal.

Sign up for Canon Price Watch (https://www.cpricewatch.com/), they put out deals every day. I'm not a canon guy so I can't comment on your choice of lens but I have had good luck buying used lenses off ebay. Ebay also sometimes has 15% off anything coupons for new stuff that can make it a good deal as well. There are also sites like KEH that sell used gear that they have purchased from photographers and then inspected so there is at least a short warranty but the price premium they charge over buying direct on ebay is significant. You can also keep an eye for used stuff on BH Photo and Adorama but they are similar in price to someone like KEH.DBRider251 wrote:Where do you guys buy your lenses from? It seems like the lens you are looking at is a spendy one. IDK about Canon but for my Nikon stuff I have gotten really good deals on lenses that are a slightly older design (functionally very similar). Might be worth checking out alternatives on Ken Rockwell, he has reviews for almost every lens and I bet he even has a budget guide for someone getting started with some really good recommendations.

Re: Photography
I got my canon 70-200mm f/2.8 is ii from someone on facebook marketplace for $1400. It looked brand new. It's been amazing. I really don't see a reason to buy this lens brand new for $2000. It's so well built and a tank that it can likely take a beating. Factor that in with someone initially spending $2k on a lens is probably going to take good care of it. I'd find a used one.
As for shooting baseball with this lens, even with a crop sensor, it's probably not going to be the best choice. But it's not bad. 300mm would be a better choice, based on my very limited experience but I think Mikey would also agree and he's got more experience to know better. Sigma makes a 120 - 300mm 2.8 that I'd love to try out.
Having said all that, if you are looking to build up a stock of usable lenses, you can't go wrong with the 70-200. You'll find uses for it.

Re: Photography
I’m looking at a 100-400 as well. I’m hoping when I move down south, I’ll be able to get more into it with my job change.
How do you guys feel about teleconverters? I’ve heard mixed reviews from everyone local about them.

I haven't been here in a while, i'll share a few since i feel pretty comfortable with my camera now. Neither of which are my car, however the ruby red 2017 is the new whip for me and the others are friends cars.
I apologize for not embedding them, i really am just to lazy to resize them to be 2048. Lol
