Thanks for the tips guys. I will stay with my Tamron for now. There is so much room to learn things before investing into a new glass.

Good luck guys. Can't wait to see your upcoming work here.

I wasn't sure if I should hit submit on this one or not but I thought fuck it maybe some other Moto snappers might find this useful even though 317 didn't ask or may not care for feedback.

But yeah I think this image is quality, 317. And if you squint and put your hand over the grass, the image goes from good to exceptional. It also follows the #1 rule in Sport Photography which is shooting with a clean background.

I think you should try this shot again, purely to set yourself a new and higher standard of image to shoot towards which I think is important to grow as a photographer.

Same time of day with the same lighting, ideally the same rider too.

Just try these few things:
  • Stand a few feet to the left looking a little more right so you don't have any of that ugly green.
  • Crouch down just a touch more to add a little more depth to the image. Roughly, so that the foreground of dirt ends under the riders right foot or a third to half way up the front wheel. I think adding more depth will make this an even stronger composition.
  • This is extremely nitpicky and I suppose subjective, but I would crop so that the bottom of the image to the tire is the same distance from the top of the image to the helmet - I can talk more why this is important but it might be too pedantic.

I know it wasn't asked for and i'm not sure how many people on here aspire to be pro snappers but I think some of what I've mentioned here is quite important to keep in mind next time you head to the track.

Thanks man, I appreciate it! And yeah that 300mm was hands down the best investment I've ever made, I even use it at weddings  landscapes too, really nice compression

What is your home address? Do you lock the door?

I almost turned back about 4 or 5 times the first time I went of the house to just fucking ease the anxiety of making sure my door was locked

I was rocking around 6400 ISO on it tonight and it looks better than using 1600 on my crop sensor. And the 12FPS is sound, couldn't imagine 14 with it's big brother or Sony A9s 19, although the sound of the shutter is half of the coolness!
