Yes, this computer is expensive, but my uncle Tom works for Apple, so I got an amazing deal on it.
I'm going to college for Engineering, so it gets A LOT of use. Most of my storage is for videos my friends edit, as well as my music.

How'd you get other OS's on your Mac?
Is it spendy or a shady application?
I've got a buddy who wants to buy this game but only has a Mac.
Boot camp.

I know the GPU and monitors are kinda outdated but it'd be a bit costly to upgrade both GPU to say a 1070ti/ 1080, and also get 144htz 4K monitors or something similar, but I'd say for 1080p they're more than enough, until 1080p stops being supported in something like 200 years time :)

That whole build is actually getting repurposed so my mom has a decent PC. And, with the custom painting on it, that card holds a special place in my heart, so if and when it comes out, it's going on display in my man cave. Once I replace the 980 I currently have, I'll gladly sell that

A friend whats to play mxs only, what do you guys think of the build that I propose? He has 800$ Usd budget including windows and a 60hz monitor!

I am not sure how the i3 8100 performs on mxs (against an i5)?

Your recommendations?

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cVbxD8 thats probably the best for the budget. I got windows off of ebay for 3$ and it works fine. you can also use the free trial version with no limitations except you cant change background. Ebay does have a money back guarantee on most product too if it doesnt work.

While I agree that computer is better overall for the sole intent of being MXS it isn't as good.

i3/R5 the i3 has a better (slightly) single threaded score and pretty even/ahead in most games. That being because games are not well optimized for multithreadded use so unless he plans on rendering/streaming the core count won't mean much and he can go with the i3.

The GPU, once again is a toss up for uses. The 1050Ti has 1GB more VRAM and for MXS thats huge if using custom skins. I'd still lean getting the 1060 as the raw performance will be better spent than the extra VRAM because in 1080p it won't matter for most games.

I got my Windows key from Reddit Microsoft Software swap or, you can do as he said and just make a Win10 USB to install with and not activate it. There aren't any real limitations for day to day use and you can get a legit one down the line.

Hey thanks guys!! Always appreciate your help!

I found this build on bestbuy, 719$ with windows, he would just need to buy a 80-90$ monitor and he would be good and respect his +/- 800$ usd budget (hes from Michigan)

My build had a 1050TI and this one has a 1060 3gb, its on sale (100$ off), i dont even think i can do this build in pcpartpicker and arrive a 720$? Your thoughts?

Oh, so the parts list was just a close representation of this prebuilt then? I'd still say go for it. I think its a good build but depends on his uses if the savings the i3 over the Ryzen 5 is worth it.

I would still pick the Ryzen over the i3. Dual core is getting severly dated. I would take the slightly worse single threaded quad-core performance over a dual core. A lot of new games won't even allow dual core processors to run the game.

Coffee Lake gen is 4 cores. The i5 has 6, i7 is 6 cores HT.

So I upgraded my PSU, yet my computer has still been shutting off randomly.

It usually happens when I've been using my PC for a few hours then open up CS:GO. I don't even need to get into a game, it'll just shut off randomly. I looked up solutions and a post said to uninstall my drivers on my USB ports? Not sure how that could be related?
