2018 AMA National Numbers
2018 AMA National Numbers
Just as DDavis has done for the Sim numbers, I've kept a log of every SX and MX moto for the year just to see where people stacked up. Below is the list I gathered after adding everything up.
There are a few assumptions made:
-Osborne takes #8 (could be 7, 8 or 9 as all are available), this gives up #16 as the lowest available other than #13
-Ferrandis chooses to not pick #13, as he is the highest to not already have a career number or able to choose one for next year and gets #16
-Cianciarulo takes #92, which is already confirmed he will
-Plessinger and Savatgy choose to stay with their career numbers as they are both in the top 10 but already have numbers (From what I remember Savatgy already changed his career number once for this year from 37 to 17 and you are only able to change it once, therefore Plessinger and a few others could change but I assumed they didn't)
-Ties were settled by best place in MX or SX, then number of best place, number of second best place and so on

Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
There's riders with professional AMA licenses (for example, Herlings), who don't earn national numbers. Can you post the list of riders and their points?
Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
I've never heard that they wouldn't earn a number. I'll just post it again without Herlings or Ferris included because I'm pretty sure they're the only ones this effects. Any one else?

Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
Out of curiosity since no one has picked #7 could James Stewart still run it if he shows? or would he have to go back to a 3 digit?

He lost it, he has to go back to 259Xkxmotokid wrote:Out of curiosity since no one has picked #7 could James Stewart still run it if he shows? or would he have to go back to a 3 digit?

Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
No. If the number is not taken he can run 7.nickuzick wrote:He lost it, he has to go back to 259Xkxmotokid wrote:Out of curiosity since no one has picked #7 could James Stewart still run it if he shows? or would he have to go back to a 3 digit?
Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
If he didn't score enough points to retain his number then he loses it, no?
Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
I believed so, but I've never seen a situation like that. Technically, only Osborne has the ability to take it so if he doesn't take it, it's available. Pourcel I believe lost 377 as his career number but can run it as his regular number next year (if he races in the US). Then will get a double digit if he earns it after that because he loses the grandfathered number. I have no idea about Stewart though.

Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
Since the 7 isn't directly being taken (unlike a two-digit number), the AMA would probably let him keep it. If Osborne picks 7, then who knows what happens. Most likely, Zach would have to get a hold of James and if James does indeed want to come back, he would tell Osborne and he would pick 8.
Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
James didn't race at all in 2015, but came back in 2016 with number 7. Maybe his suspension protected his number, but I'm pretty sure he can run it if no one picks it. How about when Tedesco came back and ran number 9?
Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
Unless Zach takes #7 (which he won't, he just said he's considering it to stir the pot), James should be able to run it in 2018. Of course, the AMA could always change their stance on it, but the general rule is that even if a single digit holder didn't score the required points, if no one claims it they can run it the next year.
There are several guys that are questionable as far as being assigned a number goes. Toshiki Tomita, Dean Ferris, Jeffrey Herlings (I'm almost certain he raced on a provisional license and won't get a number), and many others are up in the air. I did three variations for my post on Vital that should be up tomorrow (including #13, excluding #13, and excluding who I think may have raced on a provisional license as well as #13). It's really just a matter of a few guys moving up or down, and some guys getting assigned #98, #99 that otherwise wouldn't earn a number. In short, I hate provisional licenses.

AMA protects a riders number if he is injured or banned im pretty sureJeremy150 wrote:James didn't race at all in 2015, but came back in 2016 with number 7. Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
Look at it this way:
If Zacho claims #7 and James Stewart doesnt comment on it or oppose it, we can consider him officially retired.
No way JS7 makes a comeback without the #7 on his number plate.

Re: 2018 AMA National Numbers
Lets just be honest here if James does come back he only has 1 or maybe 2 years left in him lol. Maybe he just wants to throw her back to 259 for the last year of his career?Rayvenator wrote:Look at it this way:
