Being incompatible with everyone else has been at the top of their priority list for a long time. Any little thing that made portability harder helped them when they were at 99% market share. Only reason for the change is they're not at 99% anymore.

Woah, that took a while
I wonder how long it takes until Windows gets somewhat stable, doesn't trash itself and actually stays quicker for a longer period of time. Even people who really keep their computer as clean as possible reinstall windows every 3-6 months because they notice a big loss in performance

I've always said that Windows 7 finally delivered all of the things they promised Windows '95 would do.

I think the main promise of Windows 10 was its better than Windows 8.
