Race report 2017 ITC round 7, Montevarchi.

TMFR came into this round with two red plate holders in Jack Gatland (MX2 AMS) and Christoffer Jonsson (MX1 AMS). Jack with a comfortable 59 point lead over Clement Vasseur while Chris only just got the red plate last round and only held a 5 point advantage over Techmoto´s Tony Leger.
Also on the starting grid this week was Alanas Saulys and Kristoffer Wenerklang in the PRO class.

MX2:
It´s pretty clear at this point what Gatlands practice focus should be as his starts are the only thing holding him from completely dominating this class. Another bad start and a first turn crash in moto 1 saw Gatland rounding turn 2 in almost last place and once again had to come from behind the pack to catch the leaders. Picking off people and dodging crashes with ease Jack was in the lead already by lap 4. The TM-mounted Brit then decided to check out and pulled out a comfortable lead and never looked back. He won the moto with an impressive 17 seconds. Moto 2 would once again start Jack´s face deep down in dirt and he would have to come from behind once more. This time, things wouldnt be so easy, and Jack had another few crashes mid-moto and had a long way to the top. When he caught Transmoto Support´s James Beston on lap 8 the two of them put up a crazy pace to try to catch the leading Kevin Hergle of J3K Racing. They would eventually catch him but to get together and having to remount another attack. Another absolutely staggering push towards the end they had a marvelous battle and came screaming towards the finishline side by side to cross the line in the exact same time! A few cuts from Beston would give Gatland the second place and also the overall for the day.

MX1:
Jonsson would start moto 1 with a good start and was behind the blazingly fast Luca Tirone for two laps but then made a mistake and let Techmoto´s Timothe Lucas by. Jonsson would then catch Lucas only to make another mistake and Lucas would later make mistakes so Chris caught back up. Tirone was long gone in the lead and Jonsson made a late moto push to try to get that second place but ran out of time and ended up in 3rd, only 0,4 seconds of second.
Moto 2 would start in a similar fashion with Jonsson tucking in behind Leger and Tirone in 3rd but before the end of the lap both riders in front had made mistakes and Jonsson inherited the lead. Jonsson, who had made some last minute setup changes to his bike, looked more comfortable this time around and rode away with a smooth and consistent pace. Tirone was hungry behind him and put out incredible laptimes that together with a few small mistakes from the Swede made Tirone catch back up. Jonsson held his posture and kept chugging away laps and Luca couldnt find his way around him for the longest time. When the 2 lap board came out Luca made his more and scrubbed his way past the TMFR rider over the finishline and tried to take off. Jonsson, who had a very comfortable 17 second gap down to 3rd tried his best to up his pace to hang on to the back wheel of Tirone, waiting to pounce on the smallest mistake. Jonsson managed these last two laps to keep right on the Italians back wheel and with just a couple of corner before the finish the pressure got too much for Tirone and he went down. Chris inherited the lead and went over the finishline a very happy TM rider. Jonsson ended up 2nd overall behind Tirone and is now leading the championship with 18 points over Leger with 20 points down to Tirone. We suspect a very close points race to the end of the series.

PRO:
Saulys wasnt feeling very good this raceday and couldnt get comfortable with the bike and the track all day. Wenerklang on the other hand did what he always does. Showed up late for practice again. Hungover from too much energy drinks and expressed himself in a recognizable fashion: "I´ll just wing it". Kristoffer would (not surprisingly) struggle with the track layout but still finished a very decent 9th in moto 1 but the energy drink high had worn off for moto 2 and he came home that one in 12th. He fell asleep on the stairs to the truck unsurprisingly.
Alanas on the other hand had a decent start for once and was rocking a very impressive pace and stuck with the leader for several laps. He eventually would get caught and passed by the championship leading Jannik Muller but once again he surprised us all by hanging within just a few seconds of the leading pair. A few late mistakes at the end lost him the touch but he had such a big lead over 4th that he came home in a very comfortable 3rd place. Very impressive! Moto 2 would start out decent for the TMFR rider and would start out in the top 4 for the first laps. He then once again got caught but Muller who this time had something devilish in his eyes and went inside of Saulys and put the Lithuanian straight up against the planks, taking him out. This was too much for the sick Saulys who then would struggle for the rest of the moto and eventually pulled off the track, exhausted and tired. He would extend solidify his 3rd place in the championship but lost points on second place.

A mixed weekend for the TMFR crew but overall a good result with people making up good points in all classes.

Race Report 2017 ITC round 8, Paroldo

TMFR went into this race with good hopes. Jonsson had a 18 point lead in the championship to defend, Gatland had a chance to close out the championship and Saulys was on form, making up ground in the championship.

MX2 AM:
Gatland only needed to score 4 points over Cedric Vianne to close out the championship early. Jack however would have his worst race of the year. He went down early in moto 1 and just couldnt catch a break coming through the pack and came home in 8th place. Moto 2 started out the same way and this time even more things went wrong for the Brit as he mixed mistakes and bad luck all the way through and he would only muster a 12th place finish. He still has a big points lead and is looking to close out the championship at the next round.

MX1 AM:
Jonsson had a 18 point lead over Tony Leger coming into this round and Luca Tirone was closing in fast behind. Tirone was amazingly fast in qualifying and he looked impossible to beat. Chris managed to catch a great start in moto 1 where he pulled the holeshot and started to try and get away from the pack. Tirone was quick up in second and was closing in quickly. Jonsson had the championship in the back of his mind and mid-race Luca made the pass on the Swede. Moments later the Italian made a mistake and Jonsson got back up in the lead. The two would switch places once more but the TMFR rider kept his mistakes to a minimum and came home victorious in moto 1. Moto 2 started out similarly but with Luca ahead of Chris. Tirone was too fast this moto and checked out early. Jonsson on the other hand made mistakes and got taken out a few times in the moto but made a strong push towards the end to salvage a 3rd. Keeps his 18 points lead but now over Tirone in the championship. Its looking to be a nailbiter.

PRO:
Alanas looked really fast in qualifying but disaster struck right off the start where he went down and watched the field sprint away. The Lithuanian then got into "Bullet mode" and started to pick his way up the pack with ease and before anyone knew, he was in the lead. Muller tried his best but couldnt match Alanas this moto and the TM rider came home victorious to grab his second moto win of the season. Moto 2 wouldnt come as easy and he had a few aggressive moves towards him this moto but he would soldier on impressively to take home third. Saulys gains on 2nd in the championship and extends back to 4th.

Good day overall for the TM Factory Racing team!

Race report 2017 ITC round 9, Maggiora.

TMFR had some great momentum coming into this round at the historical track of Maggiora Park. The track was one of the best this season and the crew was looking forward to this race.

MX2 AM.
Jack Gatland failed to secure the championship last race at Paroldo but he only needs a few more points on second place rider Cedric Vianne to close out the championship. Jack once again had a horrendous start in moto 1 and had to work his way through the pack. Vianne however had a terrible moto and didnt even finish inside the top 10 and Jack managed to climb up to 7th place which meant Jack Gatland was crowned 2017 ITC MX2 Amateur champion after moto 1! A big congratulations from the entire team and we´re looking forward to what Jack can accompling in the pro class going forward. The Brit celebrated hard with champagne afterwards and wasnt really on point for moto 2. He rode around a few laps, throwing some whips for the audience but he eventually decided that the best thing to do was to pull in to the pits and keep celebrating, and who can blame him.

MX1 AM.
Christoffer Jonsson had a 18 point lead over the ever so fast Italian rider of Luca Tirone in 2nd coming into this round. Tirone had over 2 seconds better qualifying time so this was gonna be a tough one. Jonsson had a great start in moto 1 where he tucked in behind the RKI rider of Ivan Dallari for the first half of the moto. Dallari made a few mistakes and Jonsson inherited the lead and never let it go. Tirone made a great charge but couldnt catch up to the ever so consistent Swede up front. Moto 2 started out even better with a holeshot from "The Captain" but he was closely followed by the fast German of Janik Schröter and Tirone. Jonsson made a small mistake and let Schröter by and then Tirone made an aggressive move up the inside of the Swede and Christoffer went down. He picked himself back up in 3rd and started charging. He closed the gap from 12 to 6 seconds but ran out of time and finished third behind Schröter and Tirone. 1-3 finishes got him the overall though and extended his lead by 1 point over Tirone so heading in to the final round Jonsson has a 19 point gap to work with. Exciting last race is inevitable!

PRO:
Alanas Saulys came in to this round with alot of momentum and felt really good in practice. He qualified well too and at the start of moto 1 he showed some new found starting power and pulled the holeshot. He then made a small mistake on lap 2, dropping down to third but "The Lithuanian bullet" was on another level this day and reeled in and passed the field and went on to win moto 1. Moto 2 started good too and Alanas was in the top 5 coming up the first hill. A few smart moves later and he was in the top 3. Once again Alanas showed impressive calm and consistency and never let go of the lead when he got it and went on to win also the second moto. This was Alanas first 1-1 and first overall this season but we in the TMFR truck are very confident he has found his groove on that TM 450Fi machine.

Last race will be at the historical track at Namur, Belgium and we´re all very excited to round out this great championship!
