"tip"
unwrapping a complex cilinder.

for unwrapping a complex cilinder as it would be a bike header i do the following.

1-select the object
2- select unwrap uvw modifier
3-select "edit seams"
4-select both ends of the object Red ones I==============I (unless you have deleted the end faces)
5- select an edge and keep selecting the one that is next to that to make a line from the start to the end.
6-select any polygon
7-select "exp. face selection to seams"
8- select "pelt"
9-start pelt
10- Relax options: relax by face angles and 1 amount.

Tadaaa!

this is how do i do it, anyone has a different method?
i doesnt like this one a lot but is the only way i know :)

You can collapse them. This moves and merges the 2 verts to the average position as one single vert.

The command used to be CTRL+C but it has changed trough the later versions (to check what hotkey is active in your version of 3D Max go to "Help" > "Hotkey Map").

Here's a noob question for Blender, I have a model and a texture applied. I can see the texture on the object in renders but not in the 3d view, how can you get it viewable in the 3d view also? I'm using the 2.5a version.

Yeah, it keeps showing a solid color.

Ok, just figured it out, you have to go into the UV editor, select the object's faces, then open the skin in the UV editor for it to show in the 3d view. Weird but it works I guess. Thanks for the help :).

Do you have some light source in the scene? Maybe it is the problem of the black render

Are you setting texFace in the materials panel?
