Funding models with kickstarter

Post by jlv »

Why doesn't someone give it a shot? Just in case anyone hasn't heard of it yet, Kickstarter is a site where you pledge money to fund a project and the money is held until a $ goal is reached.

This is actually a great idea, most of "pro" modelers could get extramotivation, knowing their work could get payed!
This could also work for trackmakers and such, right?

I can't make something, because in whatever way the file is encoded, the game needs to decode it. As far as I know.

Awesome idea, unfortunately the way the community is now I think it would receive a lot of hate towards the creators. Just look how many people threw a fit over 500 fb likes.

What about copyright issues? I also see a problem with the work being ripped once it has been released. Not only the creator would be pissed off but the ones who pledged would be too.

Couldn't say more, this community is full of jealous young people (some of them). And creators are getting hated even though the content is free, nice logic.

By the way this is only possible in UK and US, right?

I wish people will stop whining about copyright issues.
Why don't you guys let us worry about that.

I think it would work and here is why. The creators can have the work done prior to full funding. They can give it to whomever they feel they trust to beta and work out all the kinks. Once its finished no one would get it until their funding goal has been reached. Once it is , why not release everything. Obj, PSD and bike. What is the point of ripping anything if it's all out there. Sure there would be a limited amount of people who contribute, (I would) but if lets say the creators wanted $1000 for a model, u get 500 people in the community to pitch in $2 each and there ya go. even if only 100 guys payed, thats still only $10 a person. Very reasonable imo. For those that dont pay in, oh well, thats on them. I hope they would feel guilty as hell anyways. I personally wouldn't care though if some joker waits till the goal is met and the bike is released, to DL it. Especially if I kicked in just $10 or w/e. As long as I have it, I don't mind paying for it and someone else getting it as well as long as it doesn't turn into a complete charity.

I tried 2 different people outside of this community to make a bike model before SX last year. Maybe I went about it the wrong way or just got unlucky with the 2 I picked, but it was a pain in the ass trying to explain how things needed to be for this game, and on top of that the models sucked and looked like Dakumotos and not Kawasakis. :)
