First MX Simulator Video with real handlebar controller
Hi guys, OK, I have been ask so much that I will give a quick video of the first test on the Streetbike rig (sorry still working on MX version to get it right) just to show it all works, but I had a static camera so couldnt show foot controls at same time, but yes I use foot shifter and rear brake.
Right click to zoom etc
You can see the new MXS stand on the right next to the TV. I hope to have a pic with the bars on it later and the stand finished this week.

That is sick as. Would have so much fun just twisting the throttle.
Is the clutch progressive or on/off?

All controls are analog, so progressive, thats throttle, steering, front brake, rear brake(foot) clutch and both mini joysticks are fully analog for rider control(progressive)!

Heres a few pics of the bars on the new stand(part built) the first are for MXS and the last few on the same stand, same bars, on the Streetbike axis.

how does one lean on this beast?

sorry for double post, as in forward and backward leaning?

As DJ said use the analog mini joysticks (ala PS3, XBOX 360 controllers) for rider leaning forward, backwards and in other games left and right too.
Re: First MX Simulator Video with real handlebar controller
Just by listening to it, it sounds like the clutch and throttle are much more realistic than with a regular controller. I think I'd want a shorter throw in the steering. When you have to move the steering that much it will hurt your reaction time compared to XBox controllers. Ideally it would report the pressure/force you're putting on the bars rather than the position. That's probably a lot harder to do though.
Would it be possible to make the sensors attach to a real bike? I bet that would be very popular for trade show / pit displays.

Re: First MX Simulator Video with real handlebar controller
Hi JLV, on the street bikes the movement is correct, you have to look at the screen and the bars to see they match the bikes lean angle(hard to see from the video angle) but I have tested and it works just right. For the MX side I am still testing but will have a new video and more info within the week. BTW its a blast in MX with real controls compared to a toy controller and yes, gamepads are quicker because of their minimal movement, but thats not real life, is it? I think its a case of a new learning curve. What would you prefer? gamepad speed(not realistic) or realistic reaction? As to shows and real bikes, it would be quite easy to do, but I am working on a sit on system too. I can build anything you want, its all a matter of cost.
Re: First MX Simulator Video with real handlebar controller
Both! Seriously though, since the steering control in the game changes the force on the bars rather than the position of the bars, it would be realistic to measure the force at the controller too.doubledragoncc wrote:What would you prefer? gamepad speed(not realistic) or realistic reaction?

Dang your workin late m8. I have loadcell amplifiers for brakes and am thinking of steering use too, but it cost a lot to use load cells. I wish I had the money to send you a system to test, I KNOW you would be amazed. Maybe oneday it will happen for us both.
Re: First MX Simulator Video with real handlebar controller
Only thing to take into consideration about reaction is racing online ...people with controllers would have an advantage...as far as reaction time..
