Is there a reason the hype for the next release has just exploded? I didn't see hints or estimated completion dates anywhere, just everyone decided all at once that the update must be out before the end of the year.

Nothing to show off at the moment. Working on cage meshes for baking right now. Was having trouble catching the wrong surfaces with distance based baking.
