I had set my input through the config file according to a guide posted somewhere on here, which was not the 1/16 deadzone. After reading your post, I went in and configured it through the controller setting in game. I just randomly checked the config numbers yesterday and realized the whole time that the "start" points for my steering controls (not looking at it now, but somewhere around +0.03125/-0.03125 on Axis 0, I believe) were not only different than the 1/16 zone, they were both different numbers. Maybe that was due to an issue with the joystick on my controller? I went ahead and changed the values in my config file to match the desired deadzone which seems to have solved the problem, not sure why it happened, though...
It's because of the way the new detection code works. Before it used 0 as the center, but to handle triggers that don't rest at 0 it now uses the first position it reads as the center. So if your stick is a little off center, the dead zone will be off by that amount.

Do you mean the dead zone or the axis numbers?

Which ones are dead zone and which are axis numbers? I'm not really sure how this works.

The numbers in parenthesis are the start and end points. Bigger numbers for the start point give you more dead zone.

Ever since this snapshot I feel like I can't stop crashing. Turning feels so weird now staying up for one lap feels impossible. The last few rf races have made me want to quit playing. I have been trying and I can barely score points anymore, and before the race was red flagged last week I was giving 100% and I was 34th.

I've been killing myself trying to find out what's causing this and I think I finally found it. When I go to set my controls in game, every button I press is delayed. So I will press my R2 trigger for throttle and it takes a second to set it. I went back to the snapshot before and there was no delay at all.

Could this be what's causing it? Maybe every time I use a button in-game it's a little delayed and therefore is causing me to be so inconsistent and crash so much? I am using a PS3 controller with an Xbox 360 controller emulator but I have never had a problem before this snapshot with it.

Here is a picture of my config if it helps:

Nevermind, I figured it out. I just switched back to the old snapshot, mapped my controls and then switched to the new one and didn't re-map them. Dropped my lap time 4 seconds feels like a whole new game again. Can't wait to race normally again. :)

To my understanding, the new snapshot takes a second to map the axis because it detects deadzones and shit automatically now. I don't think it has any input lag when actually playing. Before, it just used default values. Correct me if I'm wrong JLV. The "off" feeling is most likely you not used to the new axis or deadzones or whatever

It reads the controller the same way as before, but it calibrates it differently. Could you post the unplayable config and the good one? Sounds like you want tighter dead zones. Unfortunately, I have someone else who needs a bigger dead zone, so I probably can't tighten it up more.

I'm scratching my head as to why anyone would want a dead zone when playing, when I play having complete control of the stick and knowing exactly how much input I have is absolutely fundamental. Seriously what the fuck, this game would be borderline un playable with a dead zone on the stick.

This is the good one. I went back to the old old snapshot, mapped the controls and this is what it gives me.

This is the bad one. Using the latest snapshot I map the controls and this is what it gives me. It feels like my bike won't come back to straight up position. Once I lean over it just stays leaned over and I crash. Explains why I have been so bad lately..

So I wonder does this happen to everyone now? Maybe nobody has realized it yet because they haven't had to re-map their controls? I'm curious to see who else this may have effected. To test it just re-map the controls in game and see if it feels any different. If it does feel different and it's terrible then that is what I rode like for 3 weeks lol. Just keep a copy of your original config to replace after or copy and paste the one's I have below.

throttle_key=(-0.062500,-0.937500)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) axis 2
front_brake_key=(0.062500,0.937500)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) axis 2
rear_brake_key=(k)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) button 9
left_key=(-0.062500,-0.937500)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) axis 0
right_key=(0.062500,0.937500)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) axis 0
clutch_key=(k)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) button 4
upshift_key=(k)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) button 3
downshift_key=(k)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) button 0
dab_key=(k)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) button 2
back_up_key=(k)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) button 1
lean_forward_key=(-0.062500,-0.937500)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) axis 1
lean_backward_key=(0.062500,0.937500)Controller(XBOX360ForWindows) axis 1
