I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

Looks really good! Honestly the major thing I noticed is something you didn't mention, the board pattern looks too repeated to me (alignment of the "stuck-out" planks). That and what has already been mentioned and it'd look great :).
