Will a 400-500$ PC Run Sim?

Postby dawsonsleeper » Wed Sep 13, 2017 4:29 pm

Hello, I was thinking about building a desktop because the laptop I have now will drop frames if there are more than 5 people in a server. I was wondering if a 400-500$ PC would run a 40 man gate with decent graphics and at least 50 frames. Thanks.

Usually a good price to aim at for a solid sim-pc is around 800$+

At that price point, go for used parts if you really want to get the most of your money.

A prebuilt $500 PC will not run most games very well due to the price mark up on crap hardware. Here's an AMD entry level gaming rig that should run most games decently, however you'll have to piece it together yourself.

yeah, I did a lot of research and learned that prebuilt pcs are incredibly overpriced, that is why I want to build one. I've had people say that a 300 dollar pc could run 40 people with good graphics and then storken just said that I would need 800$ to get a good pc...

It's all a matter of perspective. In my case, I'd like to see some sort of redundancy. If you build a PC for "a cheap buck", you might run 40 people fine on stock tracks, perhaps some lower versions too. For a more expensive PC, you may be able to run higher res versions as well as instead of being on the 125 border, you'll be over 125 all the time and not get random drops, redundancy (some track are extremely poorly optimized/made so in some cases, you will either way not be able to run good on these due to what mentioned...).

It's probably your best bet, unless you search out used parts that perform better than the listed, like I mentioned before.

Keep in mind you'd still need a monitor/keyboard/mouse if you don't have that already. You can download Windows for free and activate it whenever you find a good deal on an activation key, you will just have a watermark in the bottom corner until you activate it.

That build is $534 and that's not even including the price of the mobo or CPU. That build is more like $800.

basically what I'm wondering is how much will it cost to build just a pc that can run a 40 man gate with around 50 fps that I can download the at least medium tracks and use normal setting in game.
