Windowed Fullscreen mode

Post by dbaum25moto »

With having multiple monitors becoming more and more popular I think it would be a great addition to the game. Having to completely tab out and back in can get very annoying. No clue how hard this would be to implement though as I dont have the first idea on game making.

You’re thinking about it wrong. So with having multiple monitors while playing fortnite, you can tab out to something in your other monitor and the games stays up and run just without sounds. Is there a way for that to be implemented into our game so that way say checking times during race qualifying you don’t miss a gate drop or something else?

Is there anything within the install folder that we can alter the config of to accomplish windowed borderless? I recall doing this with a few steam games that never gave the option directly, but haven't really looked into it with MXS.

I'm not sure what windowed borderless is. "default fullscreen" makes a WS_POPUP style window without changing the video mode if that's what you want.

I like the fullscreen style, but whenever i click off the game it minimizes it. Some steam games have a mode called windowed fullscreen where you can cclick off and it stays up on your main monitor.

Default Fullscreen still kicks away the MXS window when you alt-tab or click on another screen. Windowed Borderless is quite literally just Windowed mode without the border as far as I'm aware. We're looking for the ability to alt-tab with no ramification on the MXS window and still have the full screen look.

Maybe this gif helps?
Shows PUBG's standard Fullscreen mode vs Windowed Borderless working between two monitors.

Same process in MXS

I see now. The game does minimize itself when it loses focus in fullscreen mode. Would it be good enough if there were an environment variable that disables that behavior?

This is a nice feature in most Linux window managers. You can just press F11 and the window manager will make the current window fullscreen borderless.

Yea I think we're on the same page now. Just makes it alot quicker and more convenient for the user especially when making content such as edits.
