Re: 2024-04-12 snapshot
i'm coming from 2022-05-19 snapshot and switched to this snapshot for a recent rF 4k terrain test. i've always had this issue ever since i started using this snapshot since friday when i threw it into my game. Whenever i load onto a track it's like it has to load decals single player or multiplayer, when i spectate someone in a server it has to load the decals under them (same as when i first load into single player as seen in youtube linked), and even happens in a demo when i try to skip through it. the demo makes it nearly impossible to skip through because of it having to constantly load decals i get locked at 8fps, and my game basically dies. wondering if you had any solutions to fix this problem, and if not hopefully can help you identify the problem to fix in the future
here's a picture of the graphics settings im running

Re: 2024-04-12 snapshot
these are also the same exact settings i ran with the 2022-05-19 snapshot, where i didn't experience this slight problem
Re: 2024-04-12 snapshot
If you want it to update faster, increase "ground texture update rate". But if you're taking a FPS hit when it's updating, you don't want to do that since it'll make it do more work per frame and lower your FPS. Another option would be to lower ground texture resolution. 2048x2048 doesn't look that bad and only takes 1/4 of the fill rate. You definitely do not want to enable the extralow level. It's almost impossible to see the difference and it wastes time updating that. I'd recommend high and your choice of either low or mid.SethShirley44 wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 5:16 pm i'm coming from 2022-05-19 snapshot and switched to this snapshot for a recent rF 4k terrain test. i've always had this issue ever since i started using this snapshot since friday when i threw it into my game. The easy thing to do is use the high detail preset and if it's too slow try the normal preset.
What GPU are you using?

Re: 2024-04-12 snapshot
I tried turning up the ground texture update rate, and that helped them load in a little faster, but it still was noticeable that they were still having to be loaded in. I also tried lowering my ground texture res like you said, and that makes them load in even slower than 4096x4096. I tried 512x512, and 256x256 and experienced the same issuejlv wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 8:46 pm

Does your FPS actually drop when it's rendering terrain textures? If you're maintaining a steady 125 FPS there's no reason not to use 16 as the update rate and 4096x4096. The extralow textures are basically just wasting time that could be spent rendering more important textures.SethShirley44 wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 10:58 pm I tried turning up the ground texture update rate, and that helped them load in a little faster, but it still was noticeable that they were still having to be loaded in. Why don't you just use "high detail"?

i just ran what hubbard runs his gfx at. thats also the same settings of most racers in rF run. And not to my knowledge did my fps drop. I only tested 16 update rate in single player, and didnt get around to a server or demo for it yet

i also wanted to come on here and add that i've noticed on both the rF erode/terrain tests with 4k terrains that i notice small stutters around 10-15 minute mark into the motos. outside of 10-15 minutes its not there, but the stutters aren't related to an fps drop, or internet issues. i also only notice this in 1 to 2 specific turns of a track, but outside of that don't notice it at all. once its over around 15 minutes as well they stop.

Re: 2024-04-12 snapshot
the stutters also aren't that really a big issue, as they are barely notice-able and only last maybe 0.25 of a second. just wanted to record this for you just in case you felt it was something needed looked intoSethShirley44 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 6:01 pm i also wanted to come on here and add that i've noticed on both the rF erode/terrain tests with 4k terrains that i notice small stutters around 10-15 minute mark into the motos. outside of 10-15 minutes its not there, but the stutters aren't related to an fps drop, or internet issues. i also only notice this in 1 to 2 specific turns of a track, but outside of that don't notice it at all. once its over around 15 minutes as well they stop.

Everytime i see your name you are bitching ab something, stfu go to bikes just know you'll be bitching ab a game that will never be finished when you do, 16 year old game and still gets worked on-takes suggestions from the players. jlv=GOATkurtmx wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 4:58 amThankyou for the constructive reply, i appreciate it. I Was just asking because you know every single other game i play usually the higher settings gives a higher quality... I sometimes forget this game is like 14 years old with very minimal updates over the years. Might just go to Mx Bikes so i don't have to "look silly for complaining"jlv wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 1:23 amThere's a point where increasing the settings just makes things slower with no visible improvement. The high detail settings try to be at that limit. They aren't the be all end all but they're a good place to go back to if you're having trouble. Go ahead and use a higher setting if you know what effect it'll have, but if you deviate and the preset works better you just look silly complaining. It'd be like putting the largest possible jets in your carb and wondering why your engine is running bad.kurtmx wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 4:36 am That basically maxes every setting out anyone beside ground geometric detail and model geometric detail which should be maxed for best quality anyway though right? and it sets the terrain syn rate to 8 instead of 10.
