You guys think its possible that a controller button layout could impact someones getting better progress in a negative way?
This has been my controller setup for the entire time Ive played sim (3 years) and I dont feel like Im progressing at all at this point. Seems like Im stuck. Ive tried different layouts but very briefly. Guys telling me its best to shift while seat bouncing for best results but I cant with this layout since I would have to release my back toggle to shift. Also sitting isnt always real easy while trying to lean forward/back, which might be limiting my corner speed.
Anyone whose actually fast whether it be in Pro or top Am run a layout like this? If so, then that will give me some confidence I think that this setup can work for a fast rider and I'll stick with it. If not, then Im not sure what to do. Shift down is on square by the way, not circle.
Put all the leaning on one stick instead of putting leaning on two different stick its a lot smoother trust me it just takes some time to get use too. Why does it matter how good you are to take some advice about your controller set up?

Doesnt really I guess, thought it might help me to find out if someone who is real fast can be with this layout...I already know you can be slow with it
On an xbox 360 controler my layout is:
Throttle: Forward on the right stick
Front Brake: Back on the right stick (allows for more and easier throttle and brake control)
Leaning: All on the left stick
Shift Up: Right Bumper
Shift Down: Left Bumper (only problem here is that cheaper off brand controller bumpers go out really easy)
Clutch and Rear Brake: Left Trigger (I never use my rear brake, so it doesn't hurt me having it here, but it's here so if I ever need it, I can grab it without moving either of my thumbs)
Sit/Dab: Right Trigger (Once again, only here so I can use it without moving my thumbs)
Back up: B Button
Myself and a lot of other guys run Xbox 360 controllers, so you could try that. I run all movement on one stick as well never knew how people even play with two it feels so f***** up for me
To be honest Ive always played with Stop Wheelies On, but finally gave in and turned them off yesterday. Had to change my rear suspension a little to keep the front end down but now Im riding significantly better. My seat bounces, which was a big trouble spot for me, are now working like they should! Think I might stick to this layout for now since Im so used to it. Gained alot of confidence with this one change yesterday.
Yeah, if you have stop wheelies on it actually will make you go slower. Your top speed becomes a lower value to keep your front end on the ground. I run wheelies totally off, not sure of any disadvantage to running front only
Honestly there is zero point changing controller setups unless its so whacked out its preventing you from doing what you need to do efficiently. Don't switch your stick layout, tons of fast guys use 2 joysticks (one for lean one for turning) and tons use 1 joystick for everything. As for the thing about seat bouncing, it does benefit you to be able to shift while seat bouncing, but its not so important to where you have to change your controller layout. Honestly if you really want to shift while using your rider movements, get a scuf or a cinch or something and use the back paddles for gear shifting. Also, your sit dab is kinda wack. I feel like you would benefit from getting used to it on your right bumper, as it doesnt look like its occupied right now. I feel like if you had it on your right stick button you would have less control over the joystick when you have to put as much pressure as you do to push the button. Other than that, it really is all preference. The way it is now is fine and wont bottleneck you too bad. As for the xbox vs ps3 thing, thats also preference. I use a ps3 controller and love it, hate xbox controllers lol.
When people plateau and can't get faster, it's 9 times outta ten their advanced stability. PM me if you need help with that.
DP, you could also learn to play claw if you want to shift while using rider movements.
I will say this though, I know Tysen uses a similar controller setup to you, similar being he uses both joysticks the way you do, and has shift buttons in the same place. He just lightning fingers it when switching gears and rests his right thumb on the analog stick im pretty sure. Thats sketch af tho lol
