Now i'm sure this sort of question has been asked before but...
Here's the problem, i'm braking into corners, the front is dipping more than I like, and when i'm landing to flat, the suspension is bottoming too easily. Obvious solution is to harden everything a bit, but my question is how?
I could raise the preload
I could raise the compression dampening (current favourite because it should keep small bumps smooth yes?)
I could raise the spring rate
On a side note, would raising the oil level harden the forks? or just reduce the "soft" travel?
What does everyone think is best?

Re: Suspension Options
My problem is I'll swap a little bit, then swap way hard and crash. I'm just wondering if that's rider error or suspensions off a little bit.

Also, I can't slow down in whoops. I watch people slow down in whoops where they go from blitzing whoops to almost rolling through the last few, every time I slow down in the whoops I go down HARD. How can I prevent this from happening?

Re: Suspension Options
Suspension is a big determination as to how well can go through the whoops. but equally important is your entrance, if you enter squirrely you in likelihood end up biting it. As far as gettin ready for corner after the whoops, my tactic is different depending on track. Some just WTFO all the way till end, other let off last few whoops, some use the rear brake while using gas, it depends and it just takes practice.

Re: Suspension Options
Yea I noticed this when I started racing the Winter indoors. Even slowing down a little bit leads to the swapping starting. Also I've noticed by watching the hotlap videos that they're landing at angles that would instantly screw me over and riding away fine.Ddavis wrote:(Can't edit)

Its all in the set up to rides likes jones or barry ect... and could take time to understand how to handle that loose but stable

Re: Suspension Options
also if youre quick on the clutch you can keep your self from eating dirt. i notice that i usually get into trouble when i let off the gas in whoops. part of that is because my front end gets all the weight, another is my engine trying to slow down the rear wheel. so what do i to? i enter the whoops as straight as possible (and sometimes i enter still leaned over a little and have to correct while going through...not ideal, but doable!), gassing as hard as i can in 1st, sometimes shift to 2nd but usually dont WFO 2nd. when i need to slow down for the end, if the whoops arent deep ill just let off the gas and lean back all the way. if the whoops are huge ill keep the gas on a little (to negate engine braking and keep the rear from swapping) and lean back. alternately, you can lean back and use the clutch.
i also lean back when i brake...its become a habit but it works for me. as for my suspension...couldnt tell you. i started with spring rates from Race Tech, and then i think i have my compression around 60 (F/R) and rebound around 70-75 (F/R). preload 25 front, 30 rear, oil level i cant even remember. less oil will make the front end absorb smaller bumps easier, more oil will give you bottoming resistance. find a happy medium.
