do i have to downlaod the old/new snapshots if i have the new 1.7 update?....and btw i have never downloaded a snapshot, what do they do exactly? thanks guys for ur help im a big dumb noob

no you don't need any snapshots now 1.7 is latest version...when you downloading snapshot there are instructions written, so just follow them!
