Gimp for an Alt to Ps

I had photoshop trial for awhile but now it expired and i dont have the money to pay for that so i decided to install gimp. Im confused if gimp is the same cause my problem is if, in photoshop, my graphics layer were underneath the cutout layer, it would cut out any color that went outside of the cutout, but with gimp, i did this and in game the colors were everywhere.

I had the PS trial, after that ended I tried Gimp and I immediately asked my mom if she could lend me some money for photoshop. There is really no comparison between the two. If you want to continue making skins or gear I strongly suggest borrowing some money for photshop.
