MXS Reborn: lighting, shadows, weather mod for MX Simulator

Post by mxbwilly »

MXS Reborn is a graphics mod for MX Simulator. It's a single opengl32.dll you drop into your game folder. It doesn't touch the game's memory, it works online on race servers, and you remove it by deleting the file.

Real-time shadows, HDR lighting, time of day, rain/snow/fog, roost and dust. $20 one-time, free updates.

Mod can be found here: https://mxsreborn.mxsreborn.workers.dev

Update: MXS Reborn has been approved by RF, and it now has its own site: https://mxsreborn.com

• Latest version is 1.0.27. The game tells you in-game when an update is out, and updates are free.
• Download page has an install video, plus a tutorial for getting the latest MX Simulator snapshot (please be on the latest snapshot before installing).
• License: one PC at a time. It needs internet at least once every 3 days. To move it to a new PC, you approve the move by email.
• Still a single opengl32.dll: no game memory changes, works online, remove it by deleting the file.

This one, not well. It doesn't like other things being active at the same time and causes some glitches from what I've seen using Janik's mod chainer to chain this and reshade together.

This looks really cool, however, it begs to question - if these can be vibe coded in a matter of a few days, what's stopping JLV from making an official update like this? That would be fantastic.

We're modifying OpenGL draw calls. Anything JLV will do will likely be inside the actual C code of the game pre OpenGL calls. I could be wrong though and JLV could definitely look at some of the open source repos like Janik's to draw inspiration.

I want to do things properly but that'll take time which I've been short on lately. I can't just throw vibe coded junk out there. This stuff is interesting but it's just kind of guessing at things that the person designing the materials should control.
