Oh and to let you know...Mays wasn't going to ride local the rest of his life. Contingency out of 7 riders wouldn't matter. He'd be riding pro races...so I don't know why you're bringing up paychecks that you get from racing amateur races...

Ah, I'm sure it's been mentioned before. I don't mind.

I basically whiskey throttled off a berm into a tree about a year and a half ago. Lots of broken bones and stuff, still trying to recover.

Thanks. Fast and easy are two words definitely not associated with healing.

JB323 wrote:you guys are retarded seriously...... there's more to life then motocross and once you realize that you'll understand that's why he stopped Its not just motocross he has to stop now, its all physical things like he said to prevent any damage done to his neck from a previous ordeal. Its a shitty feeling being hurt or not riding or even stopping completely...but its not the end of the world as some of you think.

and i can say that because ive been there and went through it and decided my future and health wasn't worth the risk, and id rather spend my money somewhere else that will give me a better investment...
I guess Mays was a retard, I am a retard, everyone else who wants to make it in moto is a retard.

When you have parents that supervise your actions, specific programs for school, sacrificed so much to gain bikes and extra money, then your training every day, maybe your ass is meant to believe that there is nothing more important then moto. Sure there is a load of other things then moto, but maybe people that chase the moto dream know that, but don't give a shit about anything else, therefore pursue their moto dream. Whats wrong with going out to make money by doing something you love? You can say that it is attainable for other types of work, but other people find their hobby for other things.

Tell me someone you know that has that isn't superstar level .................. I'll wait............................

......

Didn't think so, you can make a few hundred bucks or a few grand here and there, but to think you can survive ALONE off racing = nonsense.... There was a handful that made decent side money (300-1250 $) back when contingency was good and they didn't cut it or drop it. Then then brought it back and only 5 riders showed up for the class when you need 7 riders minimum for anyone to get paid........... lifes a bitch huh ;)
I know one rider that made it in moto and wasn't a superstar. That rider was Brandon Haas. He made it as a pro and he moved on from racing based on a personal decision. Right now he is the owner of ClubMx Training Facility. I can search for more but I really don't give a fuck to waste my time here.

Trying to make money off local racing is pathetic. Obviously you won't make much money. If you are an amateur then you need to spend as less time as possible so you can go racing in the pros. Until then and even as a pro, you need to race! Even going to bigger races like state championships, special events etc that will make you money. (ex, baja brawl, PA state championship, etc). Contingency sucks depending on where you go especially if you go to somewhere like Minnesota or Michigan but there are good areas. Hell you can go racing in North and South Carolina and make 200-400$ a race. Plus they are every single weekend. But yea you got to be fast. Thats why you work hard, ride hard and train hard. If you don't make it in moto thats why you are supposed to set a good school pathway asside.

Yea you are a retard if you expect to go all out in moto and quit school for it. Then what happens if you get hurt or some other shit happens? But as long as you set up a pathway to moto and keep a backup plan then why not give it a shot?

Anyways it sucks to see Mays go. He really was a good kid and it hurts to feel his pain. Also who cares where this is posted if it makes you butthurt then ask JLV to move it to off topic.

This is to JB323. I'm not trying to argue but I know someone that isn't a superstar and still races for a living. His name is Barry carsten he is a d6 rider from PA he has been doing local and pro races all his life and he has never had any other job. The dude is gnar the fastest old dude I've ever met.

I would hardly say Brandon Haas "made it" as a pro.

Darr, you're right, Carsten is a legend!

at least i spark your minds to understand and remind yourself why you do what you do.... which none of you never catch on. Good to see the self determination in some of you.... you reassure and cancel out all the f*****tards kids that i see today.

you pass

I like debating things and discussion (hence this is a forum ) when you talk about things you expand your knowledge and become smarter, always question everything.

For the sake of this topics respect we can make a separate economic topic and we can duke it out there.

He was at the point to where he was living out of a box van to go racing. I mean he wasn't 'up there' but he stopped racing because he simply didn't want to continue racing as a living. Just to clarify.
