Go to start / control panel / folder options
Under the view tab, theres a place that says "Hidden files and folders"
Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.

Then you should be able to see the file in your personal folder. Open it with wordpad or notepad.

You have to have the config file, otherwise it would always start with default settings.
Are you sure you're looking from the right place. The personal folder in XP is: C:\Documents and Settings\Your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\MX Simulator
And in Vista (if I remember correctly): C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\mx simulator
I'm just checking because there's not many possibilities anymore.

Since the good guys don't want to share the fruits of theirs hours and hours of their R&D and testing, I'll share my setup that is my work in progress. I'll update as I refine it.

I am capable of racing with anybody on the internet... for a few corners. I fall alot, and so I needed to find a 'stable' setup as well. This is the most addictive, frustrating, nasty, awesome, and difficult game ever created. IMHO it's harder than the real thing.

Okay, so I made a setup that would help prevent me from wanting to smash my 360 controller through my laptop screen every thirty seconds.

As for suspension, I followed the advise on the FAQ thread. Fork compression is higher, fork rebound is lower (than the shock).

-I took my stability down to 50, and in the hidden menu I created a stearing stabilizer effect by:

-bringing leveling up to halfway, 50

-Roll Damping and Steering Damping both up to 100.

Even tho the above changes make a light nimble bike feel as agile as the Titanic, they allow you to increase the max roll angle quite a bit. 50 degrees is a happy medium, but if you are good at flat and offcamber corners, you can go well over 50 degrees safely, just don't move your analog stick all the way over.

-I brough the direct steering down to halfway, 0.5 This seems to help in flat corners, because the front wheel is less likely to push and wash out.

--

I'm sure for the skilled player, this setup is not ideal. For someone who is not inclined to put in the time and effort to get good, this setup is much 'easier' and is pretty fast if you brake early and get yourself set up for turns early. What it lacks in preciseness, it makes up for with lean angle and stability that allows you to always be pinning it or on the breaks fully.

Thanks for posting that. Maybe I'll make the stability control act more like that when it's set really high.

You'd be surprised at most fast riders settings. They aren't much different from stock. I know mine arent. All I use is 20 stability, slightly harder compression, slightly quicker rebound, and +1 tooth on the back.

Doin a couple hours of testing yesterday, i figured out that the bikes run best, when you keep you comp, and teh rebound close to factory, settings. When you start to go up to 60-70 redound, and you start to mess with the comp around 60-70. The bikes just dont handle like how they should, so i pretty much left the bike stock except changed a few of the clickers, here and there. I also added one tooth in the rear sprocket. But pretty much, its best if you keep close to stock settings. but still tweak them alittle bit.

My settings are great. I just screwed around with it pointlessly for trying to whip Overhill, and it just works with everything except stadium whoops.

To get stock settings, go into your personal folder and delete 'config'

-Also, If your controller is not very accurate, you can try to put some deadzone on axis, ex: left_key=(-0.100000,-1.000000)T16000M axis 0 (find on forum for that)

You just made me very happy!!! I have been playing this game for a long time, but only used the keyboard. Then recently my wife bought me a controller and I thought it was a piece of shit because it would go wide open as soon as I moved it. Thank you very much as now I actually have some control.

If anyone's interested, I've been tinkering with the above-mentioned setup. It is somewhat closer to stock now.

The leveling is nice at 25.

I still have the roll and steering damping set at 100.

The roll limit factor is at 30.

Direct steering back up to .75

Everything else is stock at the 30 % stability level.

With this setup I was able to clear the big triple at Alcrest and finish the second lap in second place against some good players, and I am still quite spaztic at this game. My thumbs have the precision and modulation of my grandpa's foot on the gas pedal. It's either all or nothing, and this setup accomodates and works well with that.

250 or 125 for the triple? I think the triple is more of line choice for the 125 than settings, the two strokes have a lot less power so it's more dependent on momentum than balance. Not sure about the 250f, I don't ride them ;).
