How did you cut the knobs into the bald tire though?? If I did that I would be looking at around 6k tris. I did the knobs separate to the bald tire. Plus I baked everything separate so I don't get a clean merge on the base of the knobs

Actually, I miscounted it and it's 5200. I must have read the count before the mirroring was applied. That makes it a tough call. I could get it down to about 3500 but it'll definitely look worse.

Is that due to the knobs being a part of the tyre mesh? I made the knobs separate for that reason; you've got to have 8 triangles for every square knob, instead of just having 2 triangles and having a knob or two protrude through it.

I could do that, but the normals wouldn't flow as well that way. Instead of being smooth they'll have an abrupt change at the corner where the two meshes meet. Not sure if it'd bake well.

Trimmed it down to ~4500. Any more and it'll really start to look worse. Probably good enough anyway. It takes 50 of them to push my lowly GT 240 under 100 FPS. Should be fine as long as it has LODs.

Here's a link to the whole image. Even though it's coming in over budget I'm pretty happy with it.

nice modelling jlv!!!, I literally just drooled a little!

what do you say about separating all the bikes and riders into separate parts, boots, gloves, jerseys, pants, ect even have these tyres separate from the rims! it would really make the game nice.and who really cares about keeping it backwards compatible with the current stuff. not me. im shure other skinners/ modelers would happily adapt and update there most beloved stuff. just need some more menus in game too(with 3d review).

3D review would be one of the updates along wit mesh and scripting that will catapult this game a long way
