Re: Better control - Joystick
In a perfect world, I'd wheel my Husky up to my desk, plug a USB into the "magical control sensor port" and ride. Oh well, too bad.

Give me more power.
Give me more handling.
Give me more style.
Give me more Maico.

Nah, in a perfect world you'd haul your husky to a track and ride. And get money doing it.

Those who possess strength have also known adversity.

To hell with that, I'm not going to risk blowing my shocks and denting my tank just for the opportunity to get in a battle with some doofus who doesn't know how to use his brakes.

Give me more handling.
Give me more style.
Give me more Maico.

Re: Better control - Joystick
i got used to this method all the way back in the Mx Madness days...something about old dogs and new tricks. dont think i'd do well with mouse and KB or gamepad....trigger for gas, thumb for brake. buttons on base for sit/dab and shifting and rear brake. i'm sure with gamepads the shorter throw of the control stick has its advantages. also analog throttle allows better accel out of turns. oh well...

Re: Better control - Joystick
I've been using my joystick to race in RBR and BMW M3 Challenge as well (I promised my mom I'd have a C or better in math before buying a wheel) and it's been working fairly decently. Then I tried playing Forza 3 at Best buy using the standard gamepad. Aw hell. Smooth, subtle steering is impossible, and my throttle control is way down compared to my current setup which has some 8 inches or so of throttle throw. If anyone is looking into getting a controller that will do everything, I highly recommend a separate-throttle HOTAS joystick. You'll have perfect control for flying games, and you'll be passable in most racing games, with particular advantage in MXS, allowing you smooth and consistent laps.
That reminds me, I know this is a big stretch, but I think it would be cool if JLV incorporated some force-feedback into the sim. I think the joystick and wheel racers would benefit immensely by having forces on the handlebars tugging at their actual controller. This might partially get rid of the, "it's like he's not even holding on" effect. My joystick isn't force-feedback, but my wheel will be, and I believe you can get an FFB stick for under $30. At least, I remember my first joystick cost us about $20 and it had FFB, though apparently Logitech doesn't sell 'em that cheap anymore. If you don't want to spend the money for a stick-and-throttle setup, I would get a Saitek Cyborg Evo. If JLV includes FFB support, then get the Evo Force. It's the most ergonomic joystick in the world (far more comfortable than a real jet fighter stick) and it's adjustable for left- or right-handed people.

You should use the petals for shifting! That way it would be more like a real bike.

HOLY SHITBALLS!!!!! Its the Holy Grail of MXS controllers. Now just rig up the seat to have a microswitch for sit/dab and sliding forward and back switches for lean and mount a fan in front of you that you can dump dirt into when roosted on and you're there.

Re: Better control - Joystick
I have a Yamaha bar controller like that for the PS2, don't use it a lot though. Sadly the two levers use the same button in game, so you can't use one lever for the clutch and the other for a brake. Think I only tried it in MvA though, not sure about any other games.

Re: Better control - Joystick
If it could be had for under $500, I'd buy one of those. I'd have to obliterate the word "Honda" from the seat, though.
