Re: MXS game devolopment
The reason the forums are so boring is because no one is on them.
Trust me, I've been around forums for just about 10 years now, and people always start up new forums, and make 100's of catagories, for every little thing, and each board has one or two posts, and it's a pain to go through all of them. Let's be honest though, these forums aren't really alive and kicking, at all. So there is no need to spread out the posts and topics.
The boards are fine the way they are, but I'd say a graphical update would be nice, and possibly assigning a administrator/moderator staff could help out with making the forums a little nicer.
Here is what should be there:

Definitely assign some moderators. personally, i would love to do that, but it's not my decision. A graphical update is needed for this site...and the game.

Yes i saw your tut. and it looked very well done.ddmx488 wrote:I do agree that the forum is a little bit kiddie. it could stand to have a download section, well, basically all of the things you mentioned. i got the first tutorial up and running and i think it has everything you need to know, so that's a start.
I would make a track tut. but i dont use the editor that much, as i use Ps for disp. so do some other people though.

I agree with that, although it would be nice for a training/ tutorials section.
Re: MXS game devolopment
I agree with a lot of what Wilson said.
Let me explain a bit. Most of you know JLV, interact with JLV, and appreciate what he has done/is doing. There are less than 100 people that fall into that category. That's not really enough sales to make this product and community blossom. The people from here that are going to buy the game already have. In order for the community to expand, he needs to bring more people in.
Those people don't know JLV, they aren't interacting with him, and they want a game to play. They don't care if it was made by 1 person or 500 people. They just know they are spending 43 dollars on a video game. They expect a video game to be worth 43 dollars from the minute they open it.
These people are expecting graphics that are worth 43 dollars from the get go. Remember, these people aren't here talking with JLV to understand he plans to upgrade them. Even if they hear that, it doesn't mean they know enough to believe him.
These people are expecting tracks that are worth 43 dollars from the get go. They will expect the tracks shipped in a game to be made by experts who should as good or a better job than they can do. These people may download user tracks, but they will want user tracks to simply be a "bonus" to a list of already good stock tracks.
These people are expecting bikes that they can have fun on from the get go. The reason they spent their 43 dollars was to have fun, not be frustrated. AFTER they decide they like the game, they may decide they want to put more time in on it and learn harder physics and get faster. There needs to be some playability from the get go.
The people buying the game want bikes and riders packaged with the game that look like they are worth 43 dollars.
Many of you are thinking this doesn't matter I'm sure, but it does. You might enjoy the game, but if you want it to grow and continue to be worth it for JLV to spend his time on it, there needs to be some revenue. I hear whistles of "donations" tabs on the front page. Didn't you already donate enough by purchasing the game? You (well we, as I also purchased a copy) paid for someone else to make the game; yet in order to make the game look decent and play fun you are left building the game... bikes, tracks, skins, objects.
I don't think this game is worth 43 dollars - yet. Hopefully it will be in the future.
Just look at this... It was 20 dollars on a PS1, which is less capable than the PC's today by far. If that is what 20 dollars gets you, than shouldn't 43 get you something twice as good?
Look at it this way too. There was a team on that game, probably about 15-25 people judging by the time frame. That means a lot more development dollars went into that game; which were all needed to be made up in sales to have the game make profit. This game doesn't have that, so why should it cost twice as much?
Just my 2 cents. I don't mean to ruffle any feathers or anything like that; but as a customer I should be allowed to state my opinion.

Re: MXS game devolopment
i had sumthing 2 say but then... i thought better of it

Re: MXS game devolopment
i think the tracks have came a long way already and once the older ones get converted and look sweet they will be fine...
-models seem like they will be fine in the near future...ddmx needs some help tho he cant do it all by himself
-a new rider model will improve the game tons and that is being looked at and worked on as we speak i think
-we need more people that can skin some quality skins...but that isnt needed till we get better models
-the physics...personally i dont want the physics getting split up...the physics we have now are awesome...the physics at low speeds are pathetic tho..that needs fixed..once that is good i think the majority of people wont bitch about them...they can learn to slow down to turn!
maybe the full game was released a bit early?...but nothing we can do about that now
its gonna take some cooperation and more effort from more people...not saying people here arent trying...just saying we need more people

Re: MXS game devolopment
Quoted from Wilson's post. I simply agree with that, and you just re-stated it.He made shitty tracks, wants the community to make him better ones, made shitty models, wants the community to make him better ones, made shitty skins, wants the community to make better ones
Re: MXS game devolopment
I wouldn't call them shitty tracks. They are alot more realistic than MVA's stock tracks (except for Ridgeriders, Waterloo Valley and Overhill), and are also much funner to ride. The tracks are very similar to how real motocross tracks are made.

Re: MXS game devolopment
I agree.
I would swap out the three tracks DJ mentioned for 3 community tracks, or even 3 of JLV's own tracks.
The only time I played any of those was when I did the championship, which I swept with 1st at every single track. :/

Re: MXS game devolopment
I'm not sure if JLV is even reading this since i haven't seen him post in forever, but he really needs to develop a trusted team. He needs someone to help him model, (I would love to), someone to put together a set of skins (I'm sure DJ might do that), and a person to redo the stock tracks (Gordy???). He also needs to have someone help him develop the game from a coding standpoint. I personally think that the game menu's need an overhaul and a new bike selection and gear selection feature should be added. That's just me though.

Re: MXS game devolopment
I completely agree that a new menu needs to be added.
Something with actual graphics, and good lists, pictures of tracks, bike selection with pictures, gear selection, different number fonts, etc. would all be very nice touches.

Re: MXS game devolopment
i was think something where you have the bike and rider off to the right of the screen, and you can toggle between which gear you want, which bike, and which bike skin. All of the menus need a fix, and some generic music would be cool too.
Re: MXS game devolopment
Good posts guys, im glad to see something come from this. JLV please post something, id love to hear your your stand point on these topics. I think once we get this game looking professional it will really start to take off, and thats what im trying to do.
Re: MXS game devolopment
LOL now this is what I call a push factor rather then a pull factor:
This thread brings to light some very valid points. I like watching the videos of how you guys scrub and whip in this game, but I tried for a few hours to play the demo and just turned away. This game blows bigtime until you get good at it. I don't have time to waste "working" to have fun at a videogame. The reason y'all aren't pulling a big fanbase from MvA and MGF is because you can't whip and scrub on arcade physics, and "real" physics are ridiculously frustrating for the first few hours. But that points already been made 100 times...
= Separate point =Netdemon01 wrote:I have one big question. When did jlv ever say he wanted the community to make him better models, tracks, ect? He isn't expecting the community to build him anything. That makes half of those points complete bs.
I love when people pull percentages out of their ass and think they're anywhere near accurate. There are plenty of fast racers here that were able to learn the game and the physics. Your friend sounds like a whiney little kid that wants everything to be easy in life. 2 months practice to be good? It takes a few days is all.the game's physics aren't great to 90% of the people
Oh you only expect us (us = people who haven't bought this game) to sacrifice a few days of our lives to be able to play this game???Netdemon01 wrote: 2 months practice to be good? It takes a few days is all.

Re: MXS game devolopment
i think alot of important things to mkae the game better are not being done and instead little crappy things are being updated which do not improve the game a whole lot. if rider lean got sorted and better steering and the more important things jlv would have an awesome game but sat updating tiny things isnt good for anyone who plays the game especially when alot of people want the big updates!
we need an easier way to put bikes and tracks and gear into game instead of having a crappy folder with ppm and saf and png and jm files dotted about everywhere and to me who doesn't know alot about computers is very confused by it all and am sure alot more normal people who just wanna pick up the game will be confused about it as well. we need better menus and easier to use controls for replays and stuff, it will make the game so much more flowing and user friendly instead its like ms dos or windows 95 it doesnt work well
