Re: MXS game devolopment
Ok my 2 cents(yes if have some spare time Backwwods is coming)
I havnt read every post in this thread but ive skimmed them and my opinion is- JLV has mad an incredible game/simulator but at the same time it has alot of things missing. If i was making this game(not being bossy i just didnt know how else to say it) i would finish the rider lean and then start on something like MXS V1.5 or maybe even V2 because some of the main flaws i see in the game hinder it from being moder friendly.
There should be folders(yes i know he set it up kinda like this) that are for bike skins, rider skins, bike models, rider models, helmets, rider profile. In the bike skins you should name it <skintitle>.png and then game read it like that instead of having to put a skin to the bike. For example bikeskins/kx250f/monsterkawasaki.png would be the title ill explain farther down. Same goes for the rider gear. Rider models and helmets should be separate files so when you pick your gear and it has a helmet skin for helmet 1 you dont have to use helmet 1, or if you dont like the helmet skin with the gear you dont have to use it. Then in bike models you just put in the models and name them bikemodels/base/djsyz250f.jm for the base bike(frame plastics motor) the a nice touch would be bikemodels/exhaust/pcti4.jm-see below.
Then in-game there could be rider profile menu that records your rider details. Rider gear(including helmet), rider bike, bike accessories(exhaust), number, and name. Ok this is about what it would be like, you fire up MXS wait for the menu to come up select Rider Profile a menu would come up something like this(me as an example)
Name: rewrew421
Number: 421
Bike: default
Exhaust: pcti4
Bike Skin: pcdjdecalskawi
Rider: male (would be the default rider custom rider would be something like...Rider: bikinibabe (the one wilson made))
Rider Skin: blackfox
Helmet: 661
Helmet Skin: 661silver
Then when we do these series races instead of editing the dam demo file(the reason there is no backwoods demo yet it takes alot of time that i dont have) as long as everyone has the skin files (.saf would work for teams not wanting there skins out) and models it would work i think.
Thats about it, this would make the game super modable and more modder friendly.

But neither is the case. This is a game for a niche market and if I go big I will go broke.WILSONATV wrote:Good posts guys, im glad to see something come from this. JLV please post something, id love to hear your your stand point on these topics. I think once we get this game looking professional it will really start to take off, and thats what im trying to do.
Thing is, I'd say a lot of us would volunteer some time to better this game.
I know I will, and I'm sure Rew would, DJ would, and ddmx would. Other than that, I really don't know, but I'd be happy to help, for free.

Re: MXS game devolopment
We can only help so much too. We can do everything that doesn't involve coding. When JLV said that he was retexturing the old tracks, maybe he could let us have the folders and we could do it for him while he was working on something that needed coded.
Re: MXS game devolopment
I think a few of us could put some time into updating the tracks, after my new adventures with my contest track and decals, you guys are going to have to watch out!

YES, I ACTUALLY PLAY WITH trilinear mipmaps 16Xanisotropic 16qxAnti Alising but there are older drivers that doesnt come with this optionsDJ wrote:Hey Mace-X, my graphics card driver, which is software called ATI Catalyst Control Centre, allows me to override the game settings for anti-aliasing and anisotropic, and with good results (very good, except as you all know, my computer sucks, so the frame rate drops significantly with it on). You should see if your graphics driver has any software that allows this.

Massacre ftw!

Re: MXS game devolopment
I think I'll do that. I probably underestimate the importance of the skins. The game I played for the most part before this was Quake 3. It had all kinds of skin and model options. However, the first thing every competitive player did was force the all the models and skins to the loudest and brightest available so they would be easier to see. Then they would usually turn down the texture resolution to make the enemy players stand out even more. It looked horrible but all they cared about was getting the competitive edge. I wasn't quite that bad but I did use forcemodels.rewrew421 wrote:Then in-game there could be rider profile menu that records your rider details. Btw, I appreciate your offer the retexture my tracks. But it's time consuming and I really don't expect anyone to do that for free, especially when it sounds like you don't have a lot of free time at the moment.

20 - 30 minutes?????? my millville replica track took 25 hours! granted that i also added the time for the disp. map in there (about 10 hours), but man, 30 minutes. I would prolly spend about 3 hours updating a track. that would be just textures and some objects. Probably need to keep the detail down though while still looking good just for all purposes.

Re: MXS game devolopment
hes talking about just redoing the decals for the stock tracks.

Re: MXS game devolopment
i would still love to do it, and it would probably only take about an hour
Re: MXS game devolopment
The most helpful thing you guys could do would be to make new ground decals. It would be great if we had a good library of decals for different soil types. RIght now I only have a few different ones and each one took me a while to create. (Mostly because I've been trying to do a better job on the edges than just doing an alpha fade.)
Once I have the tracks retextured there will be a full update (an installer, not a snapshot) to version 1.1. If that could have a large selection of decals included that would be awesome.

Re: MXS game devolopment
I have a ground textures folder with textures ranging from 256x256 all the way up to 3000x3000, most of them are tileable.

Alright, for the sake of bringing more talent in to help with skins, models, tracks, objects, everything...have u thought about starting over jlv?...i mean making it free for a bit till we get things really rolling. (ofcourse keeping tabs on everyone who has already purchased the full version so when it costs again we are good to go) Because everyone seems to agree that the sky is the limit for this game and with the talent around willing to help out if they could get the full version it would do wonders i think. The stuff some of these guys are capable of could really get this game going and also get it going alot faster or sooner.
im not bitching about the price so dont get me wrong...im happy with my purchase the way this game is right now..easily the funnest and most realistic mx game to date
im also thankful that the creator is the way he is being...always listening and ready to improve or change things..u dont c that very often
