Thinking about buying this game
Well the problem is that i have had the demo for sometime now, maybe like 8 months or so if im correct but i just cant get the hang of the game. I only can play on arcade physics which i dislike and i suck at riding while using them too. Well then i came here to check out my bike setups, entered 1 in but it got even worse. On sim physics, i cant even go a straight line without crashing. Is it just me who sucks or is there something really wrong with my setup or something. I really want to buy the full version but i just dont see the point since i cant even ride a full lap without crashing like 50 times.

The game definitely isn't for everyone. I do intend to make stabilizer smarter to make it easier to balance while running aggressive settings. So you might want to check back every once in a while to see it's improved enough for you. It's never going to be a casual game though.

When you say you tried a new setup, what was the "Stability" set at? If you jump in the game and try to use a low stability (20 or less) you aren't going to have very much luck. Try starting with stability on 80, and slowly work your way into lower stability settings.Boink02 wrote:Well the problem is that i have had the demo for sometime now, maybe like 8 months or so if im correct but i just cant get the hang of the game. Re: Thinking about buying this game
In the setup that was posted here on the forums it was set at 15. I did put it at max but i just kept flying around the track. I know this isn't and probably wont be anything like mx vs atv games physics wise, that's the main reason im still playing this game even though i just cant get the hang of it. I guess il just keep playing and try to get better at it, when i feel like i can somewhat ride atleast decent, i will definetly buy this game. But i must say, even though i suck at this game, it's the only one that actually keeps me in the motocross community on the gaming side of it. Sucks i cant ride for myself anymore since my back is really messed up.
But i will be checking back here pretty much every day. Any tips would be appreciated as well and i apologize for my typos if there is some, im finnish so i may screw up every now and then.

Re: Thinking about buying this game
Are you using a controller? It definitely helps with handling.
One main problem i had when transitioning from past motocross games to MXS was getting used to controlling the handlebars instead of the bike+rider as one object on a turntable. New players need to realize (and maybe this should be included with the demo and game) that you are controlling the pressure applied to the handlebars in MXS. What this means is you DO NOT jam the stick (or whatever control button) 100% to the left to turn left. If you were to mimic this in real life, you would fall over, too. Instead, you apply force to initiate a lean, and hold a little bit of force to maintain the lean, and make small adjustments to lean more or less.
My suggestion to new riders is to start with a high stability and forget about using someones setup. What works for other people may not work for you. Make sure your control inputs are smooth and not drastic. Don't try to whip at all. Instead, try to run clean laps without crashing.

What I find very handy:
-Ride a 125cc
-Turn automatic shifting off. It is easier to control your speed and braking if you can shift manual.
-I find the best track to start with: Alcrest or Rabbit Hill
-I Find it easier to ride if the auto clutch feature is on like 3000 rpm.
-Ride it first person
-Ride it like it is a real motocross bike and learn from falling
Good luck

And use stop wheelies, and antilock brakes til you get the feel for it too. especially if you're using a key board. I really only started having fun once I got a controller though.
Also, take some time to set your camera angle and FOV so you're comfortable. Just like IRL if you can force yourself to look farther ahead you will find it gets much easier. Stick with it and you'll be hooked, that's for sure.

Re: Thinking about buying this game
I highly recommend getting setup with a controller. You'll be thankful later. There are a few guys who manage to ride pretty well with keyboard, but it's rare. MXS is a lot about subtle turning, rolling on the throttle, etc, just like a real bike...you can't get that on a keyboard.
Another tip that really helped me that you can only do with a controller is while turning is slightly drag your brake or your gas, never be completely coasting. It helps keep the bike loaded in the suspension and hooked up. Just barely dragging either button.

For the time being, you can get a "no-name" controller for about $10. I got a gamestop 6axis or something. It's like a knockoff PS3 controller. The sticks aren't very precise, and the triggers are awful. but it's leagues ahead of the keyboard
