Xbox controller having trouble shifting

I have up shift for a I think and downshift for y. Sometimes when I try to upshift or downshift it won't let me and to get it to work I have to press the other shift button the proceed. Like if I go to upshift and it doesn't work I have to click downshift then click upshift to get it to work. It happens maybe once an hour sometimes and it's really annoying. Antibody know a solution?

Also sometimes i try and upshift but it downshifts on the upshift button but its rare
