Laptop/PC Specs - I bet you get sick of this but please bear

Post by NIGEL2630 »

I need to get a pc or laptop for a friends teenager who want to play MX Simulator.

I have seen where it says Requires 2 GHz CPU with 1 GB RAM and 3D graphics accelerator with full OpenGL 1.1 support. Works on either Windows (XP or newer) or Linux.

I notice there seems to be quite a few posts of people having problems.

Does the laptop or pc need to have a dedicated graphics card. Would most Windows 8, 2.0 GHz 1GB ram handle mx simulator?

Any guidance appreciated.

If you're buying it specifically for MX Simulator you should get something with a dedicated card. The game will run on integrated graphics chips but it won't be as smooth.

If you're looking for something that can run at full settings with a full gate, you'll be spending $1000 at least. If you can post a price range either I or someone else can get you the best computer for the money.

Hi thank you for your reply.

Well he's around 13 and does moto cross. Ideally he wants a laptop I believe for school etc. The only game he seems to want to play on the laptop is MX Simulator.

Original budget he was looking at was around £400, there may be a little movement here.

I didn't want to get something and find the game play was poor that's where I thought he may get a better spec pc rather than a laptop. I am not a gamer myself.

What Nash said isn't exactly true. I'm getting a build that, if I'm correct, should run Millville with max graphics, minus shaders, full gate at over 70 FPS for only around $800 USD. Having said that, a laptop will almost definitely be too much money for not enough performance.

But as he said, he is also using it for school so a desktop would not be an option. But yes, it's a lot more money for a laptop.

Just now saw this. Story of my fucking life. I have to run my texture details on 20 and 2 with no stadium in an rF race. Can't wait to get my new computer!

Not true.. I paid €600,- for my laptop and I can play the new sx tracks(high res version) with a full gate highest settings possible. Haven't tried a national tho since 01 is always empty.

There are good laptops but you have to know specifically what you will need it for. Just like all things planning and knowing how it will be used is the best thing you can do for getting a budget. A laptop with a decent CPU and dedicated card would be best but if you went with a quality, newer i7 and plenty of RAM I think you could still use it as an APU like build and get decent performance out of it. AMD has really put the pressure on Intel to start getting their onboard stuff up to par but they still aren't there is why I suggest if you do go onboard get the best of the best you can in an i7, the i5's and i3's are still majorly under powered in the graphics but if you have a dedicated card they would be just fine.

If you do decide to go PC you can get a smaller form factor that still has full capabilities as a tower PC. If you need any help or feedback on a pick feel free to post and we can give our opinions.
