Skins and Tracks

Post by Redbull »

Is it okay to have hundreds of skins and tracks or can it slow your computer down? Right now my MXsimulator folder is at 2.5 Gigabytes will deleting a few skins change anything?

I have a question like this as well for you computer guys out there.

Lets say you are playing online or w/e, with like 10 people, and your computer has to load 10 bikes, 10 gearsets, 10 helmets, 10 wheelsets, etc, does this slow your computer/lag the game, compared with the default stuff? I think I may delete all skins and tracks that I have no intention of using.

If I do that, is there a way to set a specific skin to be my default skin so I don't have a ton of discolored bikes and default gear/helmets and all that?

It shouldn't really slow the game down since all of those aren't loaded while you are playing, just what you are using is. They do have to be shown in the menu's, but that shouldn't slow menu browsing down.

Sween: If they have more polys (or have lod's with higher polys) than the defualt models, it would slow down some. If the textures are higher res that would slow it down some too (question from myself; Do the model textures work the same as the track's where they are limited to a certain res at a lower texture detail level?). If you mean just loading the skins, it might since if you didn't have them it would use one texture for the models you don't have the actual skin for. So instead of loading a Monster Honda skin, a One Industries Honda skin, and a race team Honda skin, it would only load the default skin for that model instead of all 3. I'm not sure if you can set a default skin for a model or not.

You can set any skin to default as long as its a png or you have the original file. Just rename the file crf250-default and it will replace the default skin.

I cleaned house! nothing noticeable other than the organization! and I just named a skin crf250.png, yz250f.png, etc and now those are defaults. I noticed it because all default 125 yamahas on my game were RMX bike, which was named yz125. so no more crazy colored bikes! I may change the default gear to something too.

The best part is no selecting my bike and gear is so easy because I don't have a million skins to go through!

I might have to do the same. I have a lot of skins I don't use, don't need the team skins either since most of them aren't together anymore.

Thanks for the idea Sweeny .
