FX 8350/I5 4460

Hello, I seek a config for 700 euros (760$), without display, without OS, just to play a Mxs but I hesitate between the FX 8350 and 4460 I5

And I do not know what to add, as other components To optimize performance for Mxs .

I would like to have your opinion, thank you.

What country are you located in? Prices are very different so its best to know where you are to give you the best advice. For motherboard it doesn't matter much, not super cheap of course but $80-120 is a good budget, a decent PSU like CX600M, and the best GPU you can afford. Might be worth looking at AMD R9 2XX cards for bang for the buck because they are quite good for the price vs. Nvidia.

We also have a thread in the Off Topic Section called "What's Your PC" where we have discussed a lot of this and there are of course other good forums like LinusTechTips (great place to check for deals in the Hot Deals section) and Toms Hardware for example to do some research.

I come from France, the prices are a little higher, I read that the FX were FPS drops, that's why I hesitate with a small I5, I also found the amd R9 280 in research related to the FX, excuse me if I do not post in the right place.

I would say switch to i5 and you have a good build. The thing about the FX8350 is that it has many slow cores instead of fewer faster cores. This is the opposite with the I5 and currently for gaming there is only so many cores that are used (in MXS I believe is is 2) so having additional cores that are not doing anything doesn't improve performance. Also, the FX chips are quite old tech now and they are very power hungry (need more expensive motherboard).

Imagine that a single FX8350 core could do 4 units of work per hour and the I5 could do 6. For tasks where all the cores are working the FX would be superior (8x4=32 vs. 4x6=24) but for tasks where only 2 cores were used the I5 is superior (4x2=8 vs. 6x2=12). That is why currently Intel is on top and will be until AMD releases something with faster cores or games and other applications take advantage of all the available cores.

Ok then goes to Intel, I forgot the Corsair on my post above, it will also have a 750W $ 90, which returned me to 657euros ($ 700) with a processor to be improving in future or, stay on top of 4460 and a graphics card?

I have a 8350 and a GTX 960 and it runs sims flawlessly. I also play GTA5 and it really lags. Have to have everything on normal and/or off. I'd save up and get maybe an i7 with a 970 or 980. It's worth it in the long run. Don't skimp out like I did

I have no use for the extra cores of the i7 and its not close to bottlenecking my GPU performance. Just get a strong i5 and put the rest towards a cooler or a better GPU. I think the i5/280X combo would run GTA no problem, the i7 will not help in games, the GPU drives games and so far the 280X is the best one you've suggested.

x2, you will actually see the extra money in the GPU as better performance. The extra CPU cores will do nothing in most current games.

I wouldn't even come close to the 960. Doesn't work well for GTA5 at all
