joystick support on linux

hi! i'm new! and i'm from italy so sorry for my english 
i bought the game in linux version last year and it works good! last month i bought a joypad, it work with ubuntu, i can calibrate it etc. but when i go on control settings and i try to configure it, it doesnt work
how can i configure it?
i tried to use the joypad in windows version and it work! so the problem isn't the joypad
please help me!
