Hey JLV,
Just wondering if there's any possibility of seeing some new 2 strokes to accompany the 450s. I know dyno graphs are in short supply, but if you'd be willing to hazard an educated guess, mx-action mag do provide some numbers in their test:
http://motocrossactionmag.com/bike-test ... 016-ktm125
Weight 198lb, power figures from the extract below:
Q: HOW DOES THE 2016 KTM 125SX RUN ON THE DYNO?
A: The 2016 KTM 125SX makes a whopping 37.27 horsepower and 17.35 foot-pounds of torque on the dyno. That is an iota below the 2015 Honda CR250F four-stroke. At peak, the 2016 KTM 125SX makes a little over 2 horsepower more than the 2015 KTM 125SX and the 2016 overpowers the 2015 by one horsepower or more from 9000 rpm to 11,000 rpm. But, whereas the 2015 KTM 125SX peaked at 11,200 rpm then sharply fell off the pipe (to a measly 27.67 horsepower at 12,000 rpm), the 2016 KTM 125SX pumps out 7 more ponies at 12,000 rpm and over 2 horsepower at peak, which is 500 rpm higher. Compared to the YZ125, the 2016 KTM 125SX produces 3 horsepower more at peak. The 2016 KTM 125SX is the best-running 125cc we have put on the dyno to date.
Would be awesome to keep giving the fourbangers some competition!
Also, a long while back, you mentioned that the 450/250 2t rider weight was the same and you didn't want to show bias to 2 strokes by lowering their weight. Frankly, given the blistering speed of the new dyno, do you still see a lighter 2 stroke rider as unfair? I'm a shade over 125lb and don't mind riding a 250 2 stroke for about one lap #scary
Cheers for all your hard work!

Re: 2016 KTM 125sx
Since we're on the topic of cheater bikes, why does it feel like the 125 has more engine braking than the 450? The rear end comes out coming into corners (as do the 250fs), the 450 tracks pretty straight. That and it still feels like the 250's stop slower than the 450s, even if everyone else says it's in my head
. Riding the small bikes is a breath of fresh air having the brakes actually work good enough to bring the back end up whenever.

Re: 2016 KTM 125sx
I believe it's to do with the traditional model of Friction = mu*R, where mu is a coefficient of friction between the two surfaces and R is the upwards force applied to the tyre. A heavier bike will have a larger R, hence has more friction and more grip. This is why 450s feel so stable, grippy and have loads of front end grip.
The problem with motocross is that the traditional model of friction only goes so far...
I'm one of those strange purists who doesn't run anti-lock brakes or auto-clutch and I'd love to see those cheater settings tweaked a bit too.
I'd like to see the 125s have far lighter flywheels and engine braking and it'd be sooo good if the 250s overreved more (don't care if they're only producing 1hp at 13k rpm, it'd just be nice if they weren't capped, there's no valves to blow through the cylinder head after all).
A man can dream...

I don't know if it would be the weight alone to cause such a difference, here are the distribution numbers though http://forum.mxsimulator.com/viewtopic. ... 50#p674388

Would love a 125sx with more power! Sucks that the source he got the new 2016 4 stroke dyno's from didn't dyno the new 125sx. I would also love a 150sx, same weight, but makes 40.60 HP (From MXA)

It's definitely NOT in your head. It's a fact that 250 2 strokes in Mx Simulator stop slower than 450's. The difference is too obvious not to notice. I honestly don't understand why this happens... 450's are heavier and come into corners at higher speeds than 250 2 strokes, and yet, it stops faster?yzmxer608 wrote:Since we're on the topic of cheater bikes, why does it feel like the 125 has more engine braking than the 450? The 250F's are 10 lbs lighter than 250's? .....What? Am i reading that right? I don't doubt that 250F's weighted around 215 in the carb days, but 225 lbs for the 250 2 strokes? That doesn't seem right at all, what year did the KX250 weigh 225 lbs? Just looked up the the KX250's weight from 2000 to 2007 and they're all 213 lbs. Usually, claimed weights by the manufacture is inaccurate, the real weight is off by 2-6 lbs, but surely Kawasaki wasn't 12 lbs off? Maybe a mistake on jlv's part? Anyway, the weight numbers today are a lot different. The lightest 2016 bikes, 125: 198 lbs, 250F: 221 lbs , 250 2 stroke: 218 lbs, 450: 227 lbs. Also, the 2017 KTM 250sx will get the same weight reductions as the 2016 KTM 4 stroke and 125sx/150sx models, so we might see the new 250sx around 210 lbs. jlv, is it possible to update the weight in about 5 months (About the same time 2017 bikes will weighted and tested by mxa) or so from now? I know we just got done yelling at you for new dyno's (lol), but it would be great to have up to date weights.yzmxer608 wrote:I don't know if it would be the weight alone to cause such a difference, here are the distribution numbers though viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37024&p=674388&hilit=kx250#p674388
