Supercross Whoops

Alright so whenever I click into second gear on a 450 when hitting the whoops I start to swap around like crazy and I always crash. I just want to know what causes this and how to prevent it. So how I hit whoops is I'll hit them somewhat straight depending on where I plan on going for the next turn and I lean back after every whoop. Is there something I can do so I don't swap around when I hit second gear?
