Changes:
  • Now uses parallel projection instead of scaling Y coord for editor's display.
  • Gate jumper penalty is now cleared on restart.
  • Easier to see grab targets in editor.
  • Fixed online collision launching bug. (This time I really mean it!)
  • Steering is no longer weakened when front wheel is hit while stopped.
  • Victim of ramming now gets up faster than normal.

Linux users: http://mxsimulator.com/snapshots/mxbin-2010-11-22

Replace mx.exe or mxbin with one of the above files. I'd keep a backup of the originals since these aren't well tested.

What do you mean by that?

Before it used perspective projection with the Y coord scaled by 0. The new way is better because it lets the Z buffer work. The only downside is extreme heights will get clipped now.

Could it be doable to set a new clipping value in this case ? (I don't know what do you call 'extreme heights')

Blue flag is working for me, but for this purpose, could we use more gates on tracks to update timers more often, what is the inconvenient if we add a lot of gates on track editor ?

For some reason, its only this snapshot, after about 10 minutes of playing Mxsim my laptop just turns off as if someone turned it off by the plug, no warning message comes up it just turns off. I know its not my laptop because it only does it when I play Mxsim.

That would work. The clipping plane is at 1000 right now, but since the terrain is scaled depending on the zoom nothing will be clipped unless it's higher than 1000 * the number of feet showing vertically on the screen. E.g. with 100 feet showing the max height is 100000.

You don't want to put the gates so close together that someone can easily miss 3 gates.

It's your laptop. User level apps aren't allowed to shut down your computer. The only way they could do it would be by triggering some other problem. I'd check my CPU and GPU temperatures just in case a fan has died. You could also check the task manager to see if something is leaking memory, but Windows will handle running out of memory without shutting down so I doubt that's the problem.

All I can tell you is there is no system call to abruptly cut the power. By definition, that type of shutdown is either a bug in the operating system's kernel or hardware problem. User level apps aren't allowed to do that.
