help with controller
i have a microsoft sidewinder precision pro joystick,i can programme all the buttons and the joystick movement but it doesnt recognise the slider, which i'd like to use for throttle, anyone know a solution to get the game to recognise it? would be real nice to have graduated throttle instead of on/off,i could map it to the stick for the same effect but i can't get on with that.

Re: help with controller
How does the slider work? Does it have a return spring or does it hold its position?
If it doesn't have a return spring you might try starting with it in a few different positions, since the game will ignore axes that look way off center.

Re: help with controller
not to jack this guys thread...but...
does anyone else that uses a 360 controller notice how u can never not have the rider turning one way or another...like its really sensitive??..because when i let go completely of the thumbstick (like let it return back to the center) the game shows that it is still jus barely leaning one direction. like a tiny fraction. its relly annoying in replay mode. i cant get the camera to stay still lol..its not enough to bother at all when racing tho

Re: help with controller
yeah it would be nice if JLV could add deadzone calibration in the controls section.

Re: help with controller
That's not possible for deadzones.
You need to download some new Xbox drivers. XBCD I think, is what they are called. I don't use them though, they screw up everything for me.
it also allows you to use each trigger seperately, which helps a lot.

Re: help with controller
umm...it is definately possible for JLV to program a calibration for deadzones. I think I tried to get that program but it was for xp only.

Re: help with controller
No it's not. Deadzones don't work like that. It's the controllers drivers that control it. The only reason you see deadzones adjusting in games is because it runs though the controllers drivers. If there aren't any drivers, you can't adjust ingame.

XPadder works pretty well, but I don't know of many others with deadzone calibration.
I think you can run XBCD in Compatibility Mode and it'll work fine.

Re: help with controller
You can put a deadzone in now but it requires some config file editing. On the line that defines the control axis (e.g. "throttle_key=(0,1)joystickaxis1"), the two numbers in parenthesis are the range of the axis. If you increase the first number you will get a dead zone.

Hmm. Guess this is one of those things that I thought I knew quite a bit about.
Every other game I've played people said that deadzones couldn't be edited within the game. :/

Yeah exactly, unless it's set up in the game.Voutare wrote:Hmm. Guess this is one of those things that I thought I knew quite a bit about.

Kinda like you can't adjust the volume in the game, unless it's set up to adjust in the game.
Same concept.

Re: help with controller
yeah from the limited experience I have with video game programming its pretty easy. you just make it so it does the action in a certain range. so instead of checking if the analog input is from 0 to 1 you check from .1 to 1.
