I think that's when he placed a gradient. Here is a quick explanation:
  • On a new layer use the rectangle selection tool to select an area you want a jump to be.
  • Use the gradient tool to place a gradient (linear) in the selected area.
  • Go to Image>Adjustments>Curves. Here you can set what you want your jump to look like.
Think that's all that was covered in that image, hope it helps.

You can pretty much do the same thing, you just have to blend the jump more (blurring smudging ect.). Set the layer the jump is on to screen also.

You're welcome :). Yeah, setting it to screen is very useful, especially for outdoor terrain.

MXS uses a single displacement map, generally of resolution 1025x1025. Can be 257, 513 or 2049 as well. Make sure it is 16 bit greyscale

Holy crap I can attest to the importance of making sure it is 16 bit greyscale. GIMP (as far as I know) does not do 16 bit greyscale. I was making a decent looking disp map in GIMP but once you export and use in game you get a washboard pattern everywhere. 16 bit would fix this.

So, I guess I need photoshop to do anything more...

Yeah, its kinda stupid how GIMP doesn't allow 16 bit. If it werent for that, I'd probably use it, as it has some cool features

When i put the track path over the terrain and do the screen thing. I get the terrain but no track path in the in game editor. I have tried different opacity settings. Any ideas?
