VPL Research was a company that made early VR headsets in the 1980s from wikipedia.

I personally think the niche isn't worth the dev time required for something like this

As much as that would be a dream, I agree. A lot of time into something that a handful people at best would use.

MX Bikes has VR support and I think like 3 people use it. Assetto Corsa's VR support seems to be a little more utilized but not by much. Most people aren't interested in VR for competetive simulators because it sacrifices a lot of performance to use. I could see it as a fun feature, but I'd never use it in racing.
