why? as harder the crash, as longer the waiting time...

well i guess because its a simulator that would be better. but as for the racing part of it, it would suck to have your bike go flying down a huge hill while the rider gets stuck on top and have to spend a minute running back to the bike.. your race would pretty much be over.

Or just avoid all the bullshit and make to rider appear on the bike after 5-10 seconds.

Full ragdoll physics would make the crashes so much more realistic and entertaining.
