I agree with that. It would be easy as to do a real basic one. The hard bit would be roost particle/head collision detection. With every collision, the screen should go slightly browner. Then, when its becoming hard to see, the user can hit a button which will remove the brown layer (ie, ripping off the tear off). There should be a max of 5 tear-offs per race.

Later down the track, you could make it so it loads a few images as the dirt on your screen. After that, you could make it the track makers choice as to what images it loads (that would come with track-dependent roost). After that, you could have animations for ripping off the tear off, where it actually affects the physics when your arm is removed.

Yeah exactly, but the tearoff number should depend on the number of laps you run. Also if you ride in 3rd person would your own roost effect your vision?

I would probably think so because there's no point in tear offs if you use 3rd person. So yeah it would I think

I'd keep it as whatever hits your helmet, because no matter what view you are in, thats where the 'rider' is looking from. And it wouldn't disadvantage a particular view.

Even if you use 3rd person, the dirt/roost particles should fill up that screen as well.. As DJ said, it should affect you from whatever view you use..

it should fill up the screen exactly how the first person does like you can switch between the views and it will have all the same dirt in all the same spots

i would like a way to ride a track in real life then telepathicaly put it into the game it would be really easy to make a replica youll get every bumb and rut right mabey in about 90 years this could work though

The addition of using animated gif's as billboards!!!!

What this would open up:
Raining effect
Water or mud splashing up when riding through appropriate terrain
Animated spectators
Trees waving in the breeze
falling tearoffs out of the air
stop light style starting system
many, many, many others. The possibilities are endless

i think the tear offs idea would get kinda annoying because i use to play dirt track racing 2 and the mud wit get on the screen and u would hit"t" for tear off it just got really annoying though but we could use better roost, and other things that are more important

If I could bust out a sweet whipper tail, pull a tearoff, and see it gently fall from the sky.. I would jizz my pants

No no no, we do not want to use .gifs, they have terrible quality. I think a file with a list of png's would work well.

Some of those things you listed there don't really need the image itself to be animated. Like the water/mud, or the tear off (which would suck to animate anyway).
