Practice Markers

Post by Klutch »

I was wondering if maybe we could have markers for when your in practice mode in MP/singleplayer. This would really save time instead of having to backtrack to practice or whip something again. Sounds arcady sure, but I'm saying for practice, not real racing.

1. Enter time trial.

2. Reposition second to last timing gate to desired location.

3. Press back up button.

4. Repeat till your eyes fall out.

Just like many things, it's possible in this game if you don't mind jumping through hoops.

The game and UI design inside me has me wanting to explode everytime I want to try to do something that should be simple, yet it's a 10 step process.

Amen to that.
I was sersiously thinking about this the other day.
I know (and understand) jlv wanting to get things like 450's etc out ('cause of the amount of people screaming like littles girls the whole time for them).
BUT
I honestly think that a decent GUI would make a world of difference.
Countless ones have been suggested, and I know it's not out of jlv's reach, I think it's just low on his priority list.

I know he even spoke at one stage about exposing a scripting interface, damn, I'd write my own GUI then, that'd remember the last track I ran etc etc.

Anyways, there - I got it out.

I'd be more than happy to do the UI Design/Flow free of charge just to get rid of my frustration.

JLV want's a fast loading simple GUI. It's already hard enough trying to explain to some people where certain settings can be found.

More difficult than the steps described above?
The whole point of a good UI is making things simpler.
If things get more complicated to find, it's a fail on the design of the UI.

Imagine the next iPhone tried to sell a ligther UI, but with half the features missing?

What is described above is not a feature or a setting in the game, it's a trick for lazy people. Therefore demanding UI revisions to fix it is ludicrous. What you guys are looking for is a UI with every imaginable setting, that is in no way simpler in terms of UI design.

More complex UI design behind the scenes, but a more simplistic UI design for the end user. The end user doesn't know what is going on behidn the scenes.

I laid out a couple of UI's for a couple of games that never got released, it's a pain to come up with a co-hesive user friendly UI flow, and that is without actually coding it - but the end product is worth all the work.

As far as the fast loading stuff goes, it could be better and still be fast. I'd like to have a user friendly way to do everything but always find myself giving other stuff priority. A built in Javascript interpreter would really come in handy and make the UI code easier too. I'll probably embed Spidermonkey at some point.
