whoop speed

Post by Nikhil »

I've heard Fro say that 450 riders will be 3rd or 4th gear pinned in the whoops in real SX races to get massive amounts of wheelspin. I don't know if this just comes down to my lack of skill, but in MXS, I can't even manage 1st gear pinned. Should there be less traction in whoop sections in MXS to make this more similar to real life? Or do I just suck and people can already go 3rd gear pinned through whoops on 450s?

Generally keeping the RPM's low with a higher gear is the trick in the whoops. When your RPM's are way up, every time the wheel touches down it fights the compression of the shock, not letting it do its job. This drops the front wheel and you're all done at that point. First gear pinned is the worst possible strategy for the whoops.

Huh, I never knew that. I always thought you wanted high RPMs to induce as much wheelspin as possible. So what gear do you run in?

Every section is different, and it depends on how I approach it as well. I usually use 2nd or 3rd gear, anything from quarter to full throttle. I know that's not all that helpful, but it really depends on the situation.

Nah, I don't think you get what I was saying. I thought that there needed to be less traction or something so it's harder to keep your speed up and you have to work to keep from slowing down. The way it is now, it's not difficult to maintain your speed, and from what I understand that's a challenge in real life. I wasn't sure if the current physics simply allow the tire to get too much bite in the dirt. The wheel is supposed to spin far faster than you're actually traveling, correct?

LOL IRL i basically pin it and go and still rip through the whoops faster than most guys. If I really want to go fast I just give the throttle a blip as soon as I touch a whoop then off and repeat. That works for me:P

In the game I'm horrid at sx all together.

I feel like this post was a diversionary tactic post, meant to confuse me so deeply I'd just give up on proving my point. It worked.

I already sad that the all the bikes in the bike have to much speed, to feel normal like real life you have to gear them down way down -2 countershaft and +2 rear spocket. Then you have the aproximate speed that a simulator should have.
And in the case of the 450's it's super hyper unreal, even if you gear them down, you can easly jump a triple in 1st gear, that's stupid i know.
And you're right supercross riders gear their bikes down to supercross races cause they need higher gears to be usable. that's the reason you've heard jeff emig saying that they enter the whops in 4th gear which is true.
But to do that in this game two options:
Reduce the overall gear vs speed or make it possible to gear even more down the bikes.
I think this is a major problem to this game, and should be fixed
