Curved Gradient Tool

Post by m121c »

I think it would be awesome to have a curved gradient tool in the editor. Instead of the straight gradient there is now you could possibly bend it/shape it how you want the gradient to be shaped. It would help alot with offcambers, breaking bumps, etc. Just a idea I came across while building my new track.

You want the actual gradient edit area to be curved? Or do you just want curved lines? Have you tried changing the line type to curve from straight?

The gradient area its self to be curved.

Example I made in photoshop:

Idk if it makes any sense to others or if it seems to have no use but imo it would be helpful in off cambers and you could prob come up with some pretty creative jumps with it.

With radial or linear gradients you draw your profile from the center of the circle to the outside. This guy wants the profile to go from one quad point on the circle to another, so you can easily make curved jump sections, like after the finish in LA

BTW, there currently is nothing in photoshop to easily do this, so I don't see it happening in-game anytime soon

Explained it perfectly. I didn't really know how to explain it haha. Also, I know its not possible with gradients in photoshop (yet), but you coul possibly use the warp tool to do that but thats just a pain and nothing ever ends up the way you want it to.

I've wished for this feature myself. I never got beyond thinking about how the interface should work though. Ideally you'd want it to be able to do complicated multiple point curves and run the gradients along the curve for jumps and across the curve for ruts.

I think this would be really helpful, especially with berms. For me, using the radial gradient to make berms is really hard.

Would be possible to do something like this?

When clicking on "create new gradient" have the option to choose between the actual gradient (one radius) and this one, so that we can have a circle or create an ellipse. With an ellipse i think that make berms for long corners or ruts would be much easier

I don't know if it make sense at all or if it would be useful but is something I've been thinking the last days....

What do you think?

That's what I though too wheels, but his talk of off cambers really confused me... don't see how that helps in that situation.
