Transponder system utilizing timing gates and UID
It would be cool if the guys running the races could have scripts that would tap into the scoring system so that it would be possible to stream which riders were passing through which gates for stuff like the transponders do at real races. It would be cool for the scrolling bar at the top, having that list of the top 5 off the holeshot, etc. It would for sure add another level of realism to broadcast and maybe this combined with a connection to the position pole could translate to the racers being more aware if they don't have a spotter in voice chat.
Sorry if I rambled, but I'm sure you'll get the gist of it.

Re: Transponder system utilizing timing gates and UID
Like in SX say set one up at the finish (at SLC for example) and it would show the leader first. Then the next 4 riders behind him with the respectable gaps -.093, -3.261, etc. Then set one up after the first whoop section halfway across the track and it could do the same thing. Show the leader and top 5 gap.
Except we already have people who complain about the chat being "too distracting" even though it's barely there. Maybe give them an option to turn it on and off like the pause button instead of the whole HUD itself. And then track makers could select a few special timing gates throughout the track to make these "transponder gates" to display times.

If I understood ktm's post correctly, this would only apply to the livestream.AWood wrote: Except we already have people who complain about the chat being "too distracting" even though it's barely there. Re: Transponder system utilizing timing gates and UID
Could be wrong though. Riders can't see how far behind another rider is irl. This was brought up before on a topic about adding it to the pitboard..but it got swept under the rug because of the realism perspective of things.
I do like this idea a lot, ktm. It would add that more of an edge to the live broadcasts and give us a more exact feel of who is running faster, gaining on the person in front of them. As of now we can only see how much a rider is pulling on the one behind.

Prada, think about what you said for a second...can't see how far someone is behind you? Maybe if you're in a halo.... even then you can spot them on the track after a hairpin....
In game having it displayed on the pitboard would help you discern between annoying lapper and for position much better. As one week you can be racing for the lead with someone and the next will end up lapping them and having them catch you after a mistake. Its hard to identify riders on the track sometimes with how often we can switch gear and bikes.

Also ktm...jlv said doing what you've suggested would be a perfect example of how to use the scripting he hopes to impliment into the game at some point.

Re: Transponder system utilizing timing gates and UID
I never really paid much attention to the older threads concerning the upcoming scripting. Good to know that it's been brought up before!
I feel like the race promoters should be able to tap into something that's already in use. What about the list of all the passes that's in the server page after a race or the consistency chart? I honestly don't know, but I feel like it shouldn't be too hard for the rF guys to tap into the scripts that are already in use.

Re: Transponder system utilizing timing gates and UID
We could play around and try to figure it out in my server if I can get a small group together. I meed practice with scripts for amateur nationals anyways.
Having a ticker with positions/last lap times/etc would be sick

Re: Transponder system utilizing timing gates and UID
The problem with that is that we can't really write scripts for the game that aren't already a part of the game, so I'm not sure that you would be able to do anything yet. That's where the scripting that Mark mentioned comes in.

Search JLV's posts for "scripting" and you can get a feel for what all will be capable when he finally gets around to adding it. To say I'm pumped to see what comes of it is an understatement.
