1'st Person FOV Setting

Post by Ashes »

In 1'st person view - the bike get's all streched out by the FOV setting.
If you lower the FOV though (to get the bike looking normal) it get's difficult to ride.

Would it be possible to have a lower FOV for the the bike & rider (in 1'st person view) than the environment?

Thanks,

The only way to avoid stretching with the FOV is to move the camera back so you can lower the FOV, or run an ultra-wide screen

This is FOV 90°, with the screen height lowered / screen width lengthened

Ok - so I tried setting MXS to windowed, streched out the screen, and lowered the FOV.

I agree - the bike looks better (when I can see it), and the camera does then feel too far back.
BUT - the game is so difficult (I feel very slow, and the camrea moves around so much that I actually get a headache).

Is there any way to do a progressive FOV (in other words close objects have a setting of say 90, scaling out to distant objects with a setting of say 110).

How do car sims get this right?
I don't need to stretch out my screen or anything in rfactor & the car still looks normal?

You can't just apply different field of views to objects. Think about how the field of view works, or read up on it.

I understand what FOV is, and reading my last post I can understand the confusion.
Let me try explain with a picture...

I don't mean that the FOV gets applied on objects - I mean distance.
I tried to demonstrate this using photoshop (but obviously, have no REAL reference of distance, so I just put 3 images taken with different FOV settings (80, 100, 120), and then pinched to top of each layer using the "perspective" transform tool. - Also stroked each layer so you can see the boundaries better.
