mandatory clutch use
first of all, im going to say this could go either way, there are probably a lot of people who would like this, and probably the same amount or more who wouldnt. in my opinion, i think the clutch should have to be used in order to get the bike from a lower to higher and higher to lower gear. there could be powershifting, but it should make the bike not shift as cleanly, like in real life. but im a lil tired of racing with people who tear out of the gate using "manuel tranmission." i think if you're going to use manuel, then you've got to do it right, clutch and everything. that way its either automatic, or real manuel. i dont know what would go into putting this into game, but i still like the concept. if you're a powershifter in real life or in game im not trashin on you, im just sayin this is a simulator, and its goal is to be as realistic as possible. but people do powershift in real life, so this could go both ways (they're probably the ones who dont work on their own bikes either
) but just give your own input, and remember: IT'S JUST AN IDEA, SO DON'T GET MAD, i understand if you dont like it, and the rest of the community will too

Re: mandatory clutch use
It being a simulator is true, but there is one thing missing, the feeling, and because of that, we are forced to concentrate more on aspects of riding that in real life you wouldn't, so adding in a feature that will only be something more to think about when it's already bordering to much, might not work well.

Stuff that. It's too hard to co-ordinate 2 buttons at once like that, especially if you're like me and use L1 as the clutch, and L2 as downshift.

Re: mandatory clutch use
haha, nuff said. i use was going to use forza controls so LB would be clutch and X would be downshift and Y would be upshift. So L1, Square, and Circle for playstation controllers. but two legit and reputable opinions are good enough for me...DJ99X wrote:Stuff that. Re: mandatory clutch use
People also don't use the clutch in real life. I do but i know off people who don't. Also if this was added and you didn't use the clutch jlv would have to make some sort of bike damage system or else no-one would use it if there was no damage to the bike.

Re: mandatory clutch use
yea, i meant if it were to be done, it should be like forza controls, and the bike reaction should be just like the cars in forza when shifted without the clutch, just less significant. so you could shift without the clutch (or mis-time it terribly) and the bike just wouldnt go quite as fast as someone who shifted correctly. but like i said, attacker and DJ made the probablity of this happening very clear to me, and that chance isn't very good.

Re: mandatory clutch use
There is a big difference between cars a motorcycles. But JLV should take out the stupid Auto Clutch option, I am tired of people passing me on the start with Auto Clutch and i am using Manual! JLV should make it so you shift cleaner by speed shifting like pulling in the clutch and shifting, and make it a less clean shift when you dont use the clutch, but remember this would take a while because it isn't easy to code and change stuff around it take weeks and even months!onefotyfo wrote:yea, i meant if it were to be done, it should be like forza controls, and the bike reaction should be just like the cars in forza when shifted without the clutch, just less significant. so you could shift without the clutch (or mis-time it terribly) and the bike just wouldnt go quite as fast as someone who shifted correctly. but like i said, attacker and DJ made the probablity of this happening very clear to me, and that chance isn't very good.

Re: mandatory clutch use
thats exactly what i meant, thanks for summarizing it Trevor. i think autoclutch should be usable when not playing online though for the people who just have gotten the game. But again, im gonna take attacker and dj's opinions on this and not get my hopes up. good point though.Trevor wrote:There is a big difference between cars a motorcycles. Re: mandatory clutch use
You don't use the clutch to change gear on a motocross bike, in real life you power shift or shut off for a second and shift up.

Re: mandatory clutch use
some people powershift, if they have mechanics that do all the work for them, or if they just dont care about their bikes, but jlv did put a clutch in this game for a reason, and a lot people use the clutch in real life (whether trail riding or racing, competetively or not) so if there is gonna be a clutch, im just one of those people who thinks it should be done right. and i do realize there are different opinions on this, so im not slammin anyone, im just sharing my opinion to see if my view can be improved and maybe put into game. now that attacker and dj both shared their credible opinions, i think this topic is already decided as not likely to happen, so there is really no point of carrying this post on. and again, i didnt mean to offend anyone, im just putting my opinion out there to be built off of. and this thread should be closed in my opinion, as it is very unlikely to be put into game. thanks for everyone's input.mxsisboss wrote:You don't use the clutch to change gear on a motocross bike, in real life you power shift or shut off for a second and shift up.

Re: mandatory clutch use
You guys don't even understand what auto clutch is. LOL.
FWIW in my 20 years of racing I've never used the clutch for shifting, still have yet to destroy a gearbox. On my race bike we even shaved the gears down and had them micro polished but they never gave out, it was just way easier to pull the bike up into the next gear.
