Adding Goggles to First Person

Post by mxr449 »

I always wondered why in MX Games, the first person view is more of a helmet cam view rather than what it actually looks like when you ride in real life. I feel like it would be a cool addition to add goggles to the first person view so it looks like you are actually looking out of your helmet rather than looking out of the helmet cam mounted on top.

Below is a screenshot of NFL 2k5. The games a few years old so the graphics aren't very good but the concept of the first person view for football was interesting. It was hard - being a game where first person has much more of a disadvantage - but it was super fun to play. It was cool to actually see somewhat of what a real quarterback see's in real life. Another thing that was cool was if you moved the right analog it would move the helmet left and right however, I remember reading a post awhile back where someone said that it wasn't possible to do that for Mx Sim. Even without, I think it would be cool.

The goggles wouldn't have to take up much room on your screen but something that is relative to real life. In the future, the top of the visor and the bottom of the helmet could be added to first person as well. I guess you don't really see much of the bottom of the helmet but you get the idea. This would make things cool for people that skin helmets. Being able to design the bottom part of the visor and actually being able to see it in game would be awesome.

Rather than changing the current first person, for the sake of all of the cool videos that get made, make another camera view option. Two of them would be the Free Roam and third person. Another would be first person with the goggles addition and the last option would be a Helmet cam view. This way, it will seem a bit more realistic when we use first person and we can still get cool helmet cam shots with the helmet cam view.

Just a thought.

would be hard to add because off all the different helmets. He would have to add the inside off every helmet with every skin to the game which would be hard..

Not that I know anything about game coding but thats my guess

I don't know much about coding either but I would think it would work out similar to everything else. They're stock models that come with the game then you can download other models made by whomever.

Considering the camera is acutally in the upper chest it would have to be an overlay. That's why the rider models need the _fp model so you don't see the neck brace.

The field of vision is already too narrow compared to real life, so I wouldn't add anything to make it more narrow. And I think you can't actually see the goggles so closely, they should be very blurred to look real and then the whole thing goes quite unnecessary IMO.
Same in the NFS shift 2 unleashed, they invented the helmet view thing and I think it just makes driving harder when you can't see so well.

Here is a solution:
Put the real helmet and goggles on, should look and feel realistic. Maybe the full gear and especially the elbow guards tightened to get real arm pump.

I dont know bout googles, but definietly could stbilize the 1st person cam just like your head is when you ride.

Why not just add it to the fp model?

You generally can't see most goggle frames when you ride, at least not my 100%'s. Sure, you can see some of the helmet (visor and mouthpiece) but jlv would probably have to set a fixed field of view to make it work. I ride on FOV 140, really wide, having a realistic 1st person display would just make my screen look terrible.
